Five Nights At Freddy's The Movie

It wasn't really that bad. Looks like they just knew the audience and tried to write a story that would give them as much of what they wanted as possible while making sense for people dragged along to see it. Spoilers critique below

-Looks like they really tried to appeal to the fandom with Matt patt, and other cameos.
-Really wasn't expecting TLTS as an ending theme, but it was sure cool.
-Not a fan of giving the purple man a face.
-The spring trapped scene was okay, but could have been better.
-The funny part is the story is wrong, but still kind of right. Mike isn't William Afton's son. William still creates the architect of his own destruction in Mike, and seeing William kill his own daughter is finally what pushes Mike over the edge just like in sister location.

I saw it and my thoughts are.... it was okay. I wouldn't watch it again, but I had fun with my friends when we went to see it.

TBH I knew making a movie about a jump scare game would be challenging, so it's about as good as you can expect. I do think fans will like it more than people who have never played the games, because non-fans won't get all the Easter eggs/nods to the game.

Some thoughts on the movie (no spoilers):

1. The movie couldn't decide if it wanted to be serious or funny, and that really made the movie frustrating. I honestly think they should have just made the movie a campy and fun horror film, since it's hard to take ghost robots seriously, and it falls short whenever they tried to be serious.

2. It wasn't scary at all. I didn't think I would get scared but figured there might be a couple of decent jump scares... but there really wasn't any.

3. The cop character was a terrible actress and very annoying.

4. Some of the cinematography was beautiful and some of the scenes were creative. I won't spoil it but there were some elements from the game that they added into the movie that made sense and was cool to see.

I thought it was fine, not great but not horrible. Very tame as far as scare factor goes, the tone couldn’t seem to decide if it wanted to be straightforward horror or more tongue in cheek. The MatPat cameo was stupid but CoryxKenshin’s actually got a smile out of me.

Fuck this movie. Seriously it was so fucking shit. It was so garbage the twink cosplaying as foxy that I brought with me stopped sucking my cock and left halfway through. And as I sat there with my dick out everyone began laugh and call me a faggot while they threw popcorn at my balls. Thanks a lot Scott, really ruined my night.

Saw the movie, it was ok but also underwhelming.

Several questions:
Was the blonde kid Mike talks to in his dream supposed to be Foxy, Freddy, or Golden Freddy?
Is this suppose to be a period piece?
Wasn't William Afton's daughter killed by Circus Baby in Fnaf 5?

Yes. That event took place before FNAF 5 though. The mini-game in FNAF 5 and the little girl quotes in between nights were there to tell the story on what really happened to his daughter
  • Afton makes Circus Baby for franchise that can also kill kids when they get close to Circus Baby
  • Daughter wants to play with it but Afton constantly keeps her away from it
  • The Daughter ignores her father and goes to Circus Baby anyways
  • Circus Baby kills her by crushing her inside Circus baby's stomach
  • The daughter now posesses Circus Baby. Fucks with Afton's son (her brother) who starts his job in Sister Location in FNAF 5

But she's alive and help's Mike Schmidt in the movie. Or did Afton had another daughter?

I think it's safe to assume the movie is "loosely" based on the games. If what you're saying is true, then it sounds like they changed and/or re-arranged a few things for the movie-going audience that has no idea what a FNAF even is.

Basically the curse that haunts EVERY video game that goes to a TV Show or movie.

I assume Golden Freddy, the kid who was Foxy was a redhead (I think) with a hook hand and the boy who was regular Freddy was a brunette wearing a paper hat.

Also yeah the movie definitely mismatched the lore a little to make it more digestable for viewers not familiar with FNAF.

I just saw on Ryan Kinel that this is the biggest Halloween movie in history? WHAT?! 3rd biggest horror, ever, after the 2 Its?

2nd biggest video game movie opening after Super Mario? I sure didn't expect this.

ETA.. I rarely get shocked at a BO opening, but Oh my fucking God..

Universal and Blumhouse‘s Five Nights at Freddy’s is off to a historic start at the domestic box office.

The latest horror offering from Universal and Blumhouse opened to a record-smashing $78 million-despite debuting simultaneously on sister streaming service Peacock. It started off with a monstrous Friday haul of $39.5 million, including $10.3 million in Thursday previews.

The pic — which came in notably ahead of industry expectations — scared up the third-biggest horror opening of all time behind New Line’s two It movies, as well as the best showing ever for Halloween weekend. It’s also the biggest horror opening of 2023 to date, besting Scream VI ($44.4 million), and the second-biggest opening of all time for a video-game adaptation behind The Super Mario Bros. Movie ($146.3 million), not adjusted for inflation.

The news is just as good overseas, where Five Nights at Freddy’s opened to an estimated $52.6 million from 60 markets for a global start of $130.6 million against a modest $25 million production budget. It supplants New Line’s The Nun II ($88.1 million) to boast the year’s biggest worldwide start for a horror film.

Freddy’s passed up Halloween, which started off with $76.2 million in 2018, to mark the biggest domestic opening ever for Blumhouse, not adjusted for inflation. It is also Blumhouse’s top global launch. Other honorable mentions: Freddy’s supplants The Mummy Returns ($68.1 million) to rank as the top opening ever for a horror pic rated PG-13, not adjusted for inflation.

While most critics bashed Freddy’s, the audience graced the movie with an A- CinemaScore (it is rare for a horror pic to receive an A or any variation thereof).

Universal insiders say the decision to do a day-and-date release is a win-win for the overall ecosystem (only paid-tier Peacock subscribers have access). Those who want the communal experience of watching a horror movie in a theater can do so, while Peacock can woo much-needed subscribers. Streamers see notable growth in October because of Halloween-themed offerings.

Before the pandemic, most theaters would have outright refused to book a title already available in the home. The COVID-19 crisis changed everything, however, with the traditional 72- to 90-day theatrical window shrinking dramatically to as little as three weeks for films that open to less than $50 million. Day-and-date releases aren’t the norm, but no cinema operator was going to refuse to play Five Nights at Freddy’s.

Directed by Emma Tammi, Freddy‘s stars Josh Hutcherson as a washed-up security guard who has no choice but to take a crappy job safeguarding a long-shuttered family-themed pizza restaurant. The only problem — the pizzeria’s giant animatronic animal characters spring to life and go on murderous rampages. He’s also trying to maintain sole custody of his 10-year-old sister (Piper Rubio) and prevent her from falling into the clutches of their Aunt Jane (Mary Stuart Masterson).

Things go from bad to worse when a group of local toughs hired by Jane break into Freddy’s while Mike is off-duty to trash the joint so he’ll lose his job. Needless to say, the giant animatronic animals don’t like the intrusion and try to exact their revenge.

Kat Conner Sterling and Matthew Lillard also star. Jim Henson’s Creature Shop created the animatronic characters.

Elsewhere, Taylor Swift and AMC Theatres’ Eras Tour achieved another huge milestone in singing past the $200 million mark at the worldwide box office, a first for a concert film. It earned another $14.7 million domestically to finish its third weekend with a North American cume of $149.3 million and $203 million globally (the pic only plays Thursday-Sunday).

Martin Scorsese‘s adult-skewing Killers of the Flower Moon came in third behind Freddy’s and Eras Tour with an estimated $9 million, a sharp decline of 61 percent. Apple Original Films produced and financed the $200 million film, with Paramount handling distribution duties. The movie, starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Lily Gladstone and Robert De Niro, is counting on being a slow burn as Oscar season unfolds, but the producers had hoped for a smaller drop in the film’s second weekend.

Angel Studios opened its first release since its indie film Sound of Freedom took the summer box office by storm. Its new faith-based movie, After Death, took in $5 million to come in No. 4.

Blumhouse and Universal’s The Exorcist: The Believer, which is now available on Premium VOD after a disappointing showing at the box office, rounded out the top five in its fourth weekend.

The specialty box office saw two high-profile Oscar hopefuls enter the fray, Focus Features’ The Holdovers and A24’s Priscilla. The two films opened in several locations both in New York and Los Angeles, with each reporting a promising per-location average in the $33,000 range.

The Holdovers grossed $200,000 from six locations for a per-theater average of $33,333. Priscilla, launching in four cinemas, earned $33,035 for a location average of $33,035.

Yeah, the BO numbers are perplexing. This mediocre shit is breaking records while DND:HAT & The Creator barely broke even or lost money? I love horror movies but soon everything is going to be Blumhouse style assembly lines because they’re low risk/high reward. The era of spectacle movies with budgets approaching or exceeding 9 figures is coming to an end.

1. Golden Freddy, Foxy is clear visually and Freddy is the kid in the top hat.

2. Not really, it takes place in 2000 just to match some of the game's aesthetic while having bulky cell phones.

3. The movie plays around with the lore a lot so don't apply game lore to the film.

The thing with FNAF had unlike those other movies is that this movie had a built in fanbase of children who'd watch this movie no matter what as long as they kept some of the same visuals and it was also a movie people would've seen as a meme.

Wow it's almost like all it takes to break the box office in the modern era is respecting the source material and being kind to your fans or something.
Yeah all this movie had to do to make money was to basically do the bare minimum to please the fans. Though it would've made money regardless due to Blumhouse's business model, yet this movie will probably give them more money than any film they released this year or in their entire history.

It was probably a top two viewing experience in theaters, the other one was Cats(2019). My audience did not give a fuck if they were saying stupid shit during the movie,I heard several kids lose their fucking minds that Mattpatt said the thing.

It was fucking great.

might be a couple of decent jump scares
that and no markplier cameo is the worst part of the film. That chink better have a good explanation for this.

the games also came out a decade ago, if you were the exact right age for the games you'd be able to buy booze now. plus video game and horror movies have such low weekends usually, the actual people into horror is a lot less than you think and they're less likely to go opening weekend; meanwhile this film's fanbase is prime opening night age,
lose their fucking minds that Mattpatt said the thing.
Case in point; this is literally why "we go to the movies" imagine going in blind not knowing why the whole theater lights up at some waiter with a few lines.

You laugh but hollywood is full of kikes and the only source material they care about is the holocaust. There's a reason GRR martin demanded that whomever gets the rights to ASOIAF had to answer some pretty detailed lore questions before they were given the opportunity. And look how well that turned out overall. Much like The Office the first 4 seasons are the greatest thing ever put on television and while people hate the last two seasons, they aren't bad enough to destroy the franchise like HIMYM.

He said in a video that he wasn't able to be in the movie because of scheduling issues that couldn't be changed. Think it had to do with the filming of his own movie. The FNAF thread has the video somewhere in the last few pages I believe.
