Are either of those gender neutral though? I’m not a native speaker but I’m fairly sure they’re both masculine.
In general, in English, masculine words contextually become gender-neutral when directed at groups or used for a generic person. This makes feminists mad, so they've been trying to invent new language rules for about 50 years now, but it's so ingrained in how English is spoken that new words & phrases keep emerging that cause them new rounds of hysterical fits, 'hey guys' being only one of the most recent.
