Diseased TV Tropes community

There was a time from, like, 2009-2013 where EVERYONE on TVTropes was a TGWTG fanboy/fangirl. Even the people who just read TV Tropes were massive fantards.

Whenever a new review came out, it spawned seven thousand trope entries and a couple forced memes. Upper management even banned people for defending Busy Street.

Also, the Reviews section is awful

I don't know if anyone's ever brought it up on here before, but the RWBY pages are pure gold. See, for those of you that don't know, RWBY fans are generally split into two categories: Those who watch the show because it's a stellar example of what not to do and/or because they want to see if the show can mature; and those who take the show 100% seriously, be it because of :autism: or general stupidity. TVTropes's page for RWBY seems to be entirely the latter. I would like to show you all some highlights.

RWBY vocal themes, as a rule, are shit. The only exceptions are probably "Mirror, Mirror", "Red Like Roses", and "This Will Be The Day", which are the first three songs in the first soundtrack. Since then, the songs have been laughably awful. When It Falls, from the third season, is such garbage I don't even know if I can properly describe it. Aside from the fact that a 17-year-old, classically trained singer is attempting to sing metal, the lyrics and instrumentation are so edgy that you could have shoved them in the Shadow The Hedgehog OST and it would have fit. Here's a challenge: Try not to cringe.

Remember when I said that "Mirror, Mirror" was one of the good songs on the soundtrack? Honestly, it's probably the best. The lyrics are minimal (and mediocre), so the story, instead, is told through the animation that goes with it: The White Trailer. The message is obvious: Weiss is your typical lonely rich girl, jaded because of the pressure to be perfect. Of course, why should I explain it when TVTropes found the most fitting person to describe the emotional impact?

Of course, you don't need interesting character traits or stories to make these fans feel sad.

Aww, she got turned down. So tragic! So depressing! So... insignificant in its affect on anything in the show. This scene lasts two seconds at best. It's supposed to be funny. Guess not.

I'll put it bluntly: Nothing in this show is frightening. Nothing. Gravity Falls was more frightening. Disney movies are more frightening. This show is not in the least scary. TVTropes, though, begs to differ.

Only thing in this entire franchise that's frightening is under the "manga" section. The manga isn't even written by the same people. Make of that what you will.

Holy shit, that's awful. Like, legitimately. If only the show could actually make me feel emotions like that.

I like how this one can be read as "the real Nightmare Fuel is the bad writing."

RWBY is even more cancerous than I thought.

Can't really get into RWBY with it's animation. The quality is dangerously almost the same as these kind of videos:

But since it's not taking the piss it only makes it appalling for me. And the voice acting is horrible. I think if it's written in literature form it would be okay.

Rooster Teeth has never been good IMO. But RWBY and their newest "series" are probably the worst. I can see why your average troper would like this series though- It hits all their buttons in all the right places. It's anime, it's edgy, it's fantasy and it's by Rooster Teeth, the guys behind Red vs. Blue. So it's gotta be good, right? Yeah... I'm willing to bet they only watch it for those reasons and don't pay attention to anything else. Those Trope pages are probably good examples of what I mean.

The animation is probably one of the worst aspects, I feel. Rag on the story and characters all you like (I know I do), but the animation quality is sub-90s TV series quality a lot all of the time. And from the looks of it, it's barely improved after switching from Poser to Maya.

RWBY should've been cancelled after Oum's death
If we're being completely honest, I personally think the show's improved since then. Season 3 could be rated as "okay," which is a step up from "painful." Anyway, without RWBY and Roosterteeth in general, where else would be find beautiful examples of what not to do?

my nigga I've been waiting over a year and a half for cell shading, let me have this.

But I digress.

The fact that the legit fans are more reactive than Flourine makes for fun times. They can be pulled by the strings. You can control their feelings with astounding ease.

oh my god it's like the worst of evanescence and the worst of as i lay dying mixed together in the brundlefly machine

the lyrics are totally off beat from the bad metalcore riffs

EDIT: ALMOST ALL OF THE SOUNDTRACK IS LIKE THIS. IT SOUNDS LIKE A FUCKING WARP TOUR SAMPLER.

THIS SINGER DOES NOT FIT THE MUSIC AT ALL.

I've got a personal thing to bitch about, this is spergy as fuck, but even back when i liked the site i still had adblocker on because there were so many animated ads, video ads that would play when you hovered over them or just straight autoplay ads that A: it kept intruding on my archive crawl fun, and B: it made Chrome cry like a little bitch. Which is actually kind of impressive if you think about it...
