Also in trying to become ‘progressive’ they’ve now made it that Saga’s (black) father left her (white) mother to raise Saga all on her own. Wow a black man walking away from his familial obligations? Way to lean into racist stereotypical tropes Remedy! You need to do better!
Forspoken also did the whole father does a pump & dump + two black characters & both are thieves bit.
It's weird how shit like that makes it into the game.
It's a thing I've noticed, progressives really hate black fathers, or at least don't seem to think non-deadbeat black fathers exist.
God knows I've bitched about it multiple times in the Comics Sperging thread, but an example is the Preacher TV adaptation. Tulip is one of the main characters, a white woman whose story with her father is one of the best and most positive progressive messages I've ever seen: the dad is this big, super macho, guns and meat, "women sure are dumb huh?", chauvinist guy. So much so, his wife is pregnant and in the hospital giving birth, and he's at the bar with his friends; he doesn't even know what the baby will be, because he's such a MAN, he could only ever produce a SON, right? The wife dies in childbirth, and the baby is a girl.
He goes to the hospital and holds his daughter for the first time, and...
"
That needn't be so bad"
From that point on, his entire worldview changes; he's still a macho guy, but he now sees women as people, and does his best to raise his daughter right, to give her all the skills she needs, and prepare her for a world he now recognizes tends to treat women
not so well.
Then he dies in an absurd accident.
Still, everything he did made Tulip into a real
strong female character, a woman who is smart, capable, and resourceful, while still being fallible and
human.
The TV show? She's now black (or mixed anyway, she's played by Ruth Negga), and a
strong female character, but
the kind that RLM would describe; her introduction is literally doing some absurd action movie shit, I think it was a car chase that ends with her blowing up a helicopter or something.
And of course, her father is black (and her mother a white prostitute), who went to prison when Tulip was a baby, and once he's out, the first thing he does is get into a shootout with the cops and
BRINGS THE SHOOTOUT TO THE HOTEL ROOM WHERE HIS DAUGHTER IS, ENDANGERING HER and of course he dies in the process.
So they could have adapted a wonderful character piece that shows exactly the kind of progressive message you'd think they'd want to show, a bad man becoming good by changing his perspective about how the world treats women, and they could have done all that with the guy being black, the race change wasn't the problem; but instead they reinforced the worst stereotypes about both black men and female characters.
It's not just a cope when they say progressives are the worst racists.
Also fuck Seth Rogen.
That is because the women who write these games, at their core, hate all men and never interacted with a black person before in their life because they all grew up in white upper class backgrounds. The only good black man in their eyes is one that is a emasculated nerd who is more or less the purse puppy to a white woman. Other then that they will be portrayed as being just as awful as white men.
That's probably a factor, but like I said above, I think it's a larger thing that belies the
real opinion progressives have of black people.
