I have a friend. She comes from old English money. Not aristocracy, but many generations of merchant/big house/servant class money. She moved to Tokyo nearly forty years ago with a man she met at her British university who she believed to be her Japanese husband-to-be. After a couple of weeks, her fiancee did a runner. He just couldn't bring himself to tell his family that he was dating a woman who wasn't Japanese.
She didn't do what most smart women would do under these circumstances and fuck off back to the UK. She stayed in Japan and taught English to salarymen. Eventually, she met and dated another man who became her husband. His family are of Samurai stock and his mother still lives on the farm in the country. Forty years later, despite having given them a grandchild and great-grandchildren, their acceptance is still reluctant -- though at least they've stopped referring to her as the 'barbarian wife'.
This woman is every bit the kind of fine English rose you'd come across in a fucking Nancy Mitford novel. Beautiful, intelligent, refined, charming. She'd be a catch anywhere else in the world. But her in-laws think she's too tall. Not submissive enough. Not sufficiently deferential. Just 'not Japanese'.
The idea that respectable Japs would fuck niggers is utterly laughable.
Most Asians have a racial hierarchy. My good friend is marrying an ABC (American born Chinese). Her parents both came from China. Her dad's family got kicked out of their ancestral lands and made it to Hong Kong during the early CCP days. Her mom literally escaped the CCP during the cultural revolution and eventually made it to the US (via Hong Kong). The parents met and married in the US, and have been there ever since.
Since day 1, their requirements for their future son-in-law is he not be a communist/liberal. Considering they sent her to a typical west coast liberal (but prestigious) shithole uni, they got lucky. But beyond that, it's:
1/A. Chinese/North-Western European (Norsk, Isles, Germanic, Frank)
2. Most other Asians / Spaniards / Italians / Greeks / Slavs
3. Phillipino / Indian (aka Native American) / "Hispanic" (in their eyes, someone from Mexico all the way down to Argentina/Chile)
4. Indian (subcontinent) / Pacific Islander
5. Black

In general, tourists will be treated about the same as the list above, except the Japanese have a 0 of "Japanese", and probably shift most other asians down a step.
Drexel would have the novelty of being a giant in Japan, but he would not be treated well.
