I have literally bought Wisconsin Gouda from a cheesemonger in London, sold right along side some quite lovely French cheeses as well. The owner apparently has an open trade line with a monger over there in serial killer land, and they do steady business trading 1:1.
Yeah, a lot of America has limited options within 10 minutes drive, but within an hour drive? Probably 90+% of the country can get quality cheese on that trip, a common monthly commute for many in rural America. Add to that the growing Amish/Mennonite communities across much of middle America, with a wide variety of quality foods. There is good stuff, domestic and imported... Just not at Walmart.
