I'll never get why people use "good background noise" as a compliment for a video.

A video is meant to be seen, if the guy who made it didn't make it interesting enough for the audience to watch then that's on him.

I'm fine with videos being glorified podcasts but I find it very amusing that the graphics are one of the reasons this shit took ages and most people won't even see them since nobody is keeping pure focus for 6 fucking hours.

That aside, I'll watch it in small chunks and almost like a podcast, though if it bores me I'm definitely not forcing myself.

It's absolutely laughable that the video was held up so long for these "animations". They all look like the ship outlines were drawn in MS Paint and just dragged across the screen with a basic teardrop shape for the engine flares, and take place in either a void or the same blurry star background JPEG over and over.

I find it doubtful the delay was ever truly due to this, even considering his 'animator' is a unabashed furry coomer. Fred's heart is clearly not in this anymore with how much he's branched off, and he was free to hire someone to help the guy out if the delays were truly due to him, but he did not.

The past two years of effort have been well spent, and you can tell Fredrick (who is like a friend to me in real life) has grown a lot. Been listening to it while working, and I've got like an hour left. It's kind of painful to listen to. One the one hand I used to play EVE way back in the day before Goonswarm was even a thing, and a lot of online acquaintances I used to know played it and would talk about it with me over Vent so the subject matter is super interesting. On the other hand I keep imagining that busted mug of his making lecherous faces as each syllable drips from his tongue with depravity.

He kind of just sort of completely glossed over the fact that the game was used by the US government and various think tanks for behavior modelling and to fund tax payer money towards certain players and factions for astroturfing, social engineering, and influencing.

As someone who has always been curious about the reputation surrounding EVE Online, I can't stomach the thought of investing nearly six hours of my day to listening to a video talking about it. That's not even a slight against Fredrick, I just think that I would've been more interested had he broken it up into parts and set premiere dates between each release. Five parts in total, each roughly an hour in length. Waiting for the next installment would've also helped in stirring interest and discussion amongst his fans.

I figured out why this took so long to release: the game is dead and the video is already obsolete. The only reason he released it is was to satisfy his obligations to his Patreon. Now that he has, he's free to dive into the VTuber shit he actually cares about.

Every forum I can find about EVE right now talks about how the game basically died in 2021, nullsec hasn't changed in years, the alliances only fight each other for the sake of it at this point, and in 2021 the game coofed so hard that numbers drop below 10,000 during the USTZ (which, to put into perspective, means that there fewer than 2 players per system). It's even worse when you realize most people are boxing 40+ accounts at a time running industry jobs and none of them are human players.

Nobody can even explain to people why they should start playing. Apparently all the PvP is in this fraction wars shit which is just players shooting each other for the sake of farming points. That is total contradiction to the purpose of a player ran economy.

Just sad dude.


P.S. I listened to the entire thing at 2x and watched most of it. It's OK. It's kind of interesting but there's no real payoff, no moral, nor real build-up. The least satisfying kind of ending that is simply "and so it continues, but less interestingly". The early parts are much stronger with some introspection into how the company basically got a big head thinking they revolutionized gaming forever. The bookend of the story is "the big alliances got really bored one day and decided to fight Goon, who won. It cost a million dollars and took 2 years."

I used to play Spreadsheets in Space so im entertained by the most boring shit imaginable but this video was genuinely painful to watch. It sounds like he just sat down infront of a microphone, hit record and talked non-stop for 6 hours all in one take. With Geno, the flat monotonous tone kind of adds a weird level of humor to the videos. Hearing him read out Chris's insane ramblings completely deadpan never ceases to make me smirk.

The extent of my EVE knowledge is that it's a spreadsheet game where people spend thousands of dollars to build a spaceship that will be destroyed by some other retard. No one can sell a game with that sort of reputation. There's nothing to gain and no fun to be had. It's digital misery.
I'll watch the video tomorrow, but I doubt my opinion will change.

Regardless, Fredrik has defied all odds and released the fucking thing. That's all I wanted. He can go be a faggot owlboy if he wants now. I hope he won't drink the troonshine, but I know he will.
