I peeked in the other thread and they were talking about how a man's cooking needs to be pitted against a woman's because they think we all just eat broken glass, so I thought I'd share this story.
One of my wife's friends was having a birthday party with a couple other women whose birthdays were around the same time. They told people to make their version of mac and cheese to bring so I did, with fried meat, garlic, onions, spinach, and peppers, a whole thing. I didn't know it was a stupid contest that people were taking very seriously until I got there, so my wife laid it out with the rest and wrote what it was on a little card in her handwriting. At the end of the night, I beat out about eight other people, all women, one of whom brought her own portable stovetop to keep her's warm, and I didn't feel so proud of until I saw that nonsense posted over there.
Every man should know how to cook, just because it's a thing that feels good to do well. It's generally pretty low-effort, it's satisfying to share your taste preferences with people you care about, and it's easy to see your improvement.
