What a fun night! It's a beautiful morning, birds are singing, let me check in on the Male Positivity Thread while the coffee's brewing, what's everyone talking ab-...oh. Hmm.
My Useless Consultant brain is saying there just couldn't be enough admins to enforce specific rules for specific spaces. It's admirable to try to set up certain standards to shape threads or boards, but the more complex you make things, the oversight needed becomes exponentially higher. Null has to find someome reasonable, willing to do it, and whose attitudes align perfectly with his. Train those people, oversee them, it doesn't really get you out of any of this work and then you have to deal with your admins getting bitchy when they feel ignored, on top of the users.
So the Report button stands in for an admin, and only the biggest weirdos use it. I reported one post, in the Fatrick thread, because Null specifically said "any more dumb posts like this and I'm closing the thread." But random Reports become all he sees from fast-moving threads like these that he can't be expected to be in on when it's just everybody having fun; he catches up on the pages around the complaint, sees how shitty the thread got because of the one new person trying to cause problems, and that's his impression.
I'd make the Report button also function like the Ignore button, if you report someone you also don't get to see their posts. That would make most of these day or two long hissy fits from people just trying to start shit go away, since unless you see someone reply to the person you've blocked, you just forget about them and your blood pressure has a chance to drop.
