StoneToss (allegedly, formerly Red Panels)

For the uninitiated, indirect UV light radiation(bouncing off of glossy walls or glass) doesn't engage the blink reflex of the human eye. That only happens if you are dealing with indirect radiation in the visible light spectrum. Indirect radiation is the number one cause of laser related eye injury. Sources that produce invisible radiation usually have a visible element to show where that radiation would be going. A laser has a red dot to show where the beam will hit. A UV light usually has a bright LED backlight, which will immediately tell your eyes to shut the fuck up if you look directly at it.

A UV sanitation system doesn't need a visible element because it is assumed that the light will be enclosed, and removing that enclosure is greatly discouraged using warning labels. What they are saying really doesn't make any sense and I'm amazed that only 1% were effected.

I see another sperging session, I guess 'toss was right again
i know breadpanes got cancelled for saying chinky but did anyone else who copied stonetoss as well?
I don't keep up with twitter drama, what did he do to get himself cancelled?
Edit: I was confusing the two, looks like BoulderLob hasn't posted anything since I last checked. Shame.
Since we're on the subject of stonetoss clones, anyone know what happened to MrPumpkin? He used to be even more right wing than Stonetoss but then he just quit one day. I assume he got doxed or something.

He answered "Which continent has the best food" with
Asia. I love a good chinky, If I'm feeling spicy I might go for a nice Thai green curry, or in the West they have Lebanese, Hummus is nice. Never used to like Indian, but it has grown on me a bit, except when I make my own rice (that has some PTSD flashbacks lmao)"

Were there any other notable copycats? The only one I can remember was Boulder Lob, who described his webcomic as "Stonetoss with nazbol tendencies", but he had a very modest following and hasn't posted anything in years.

EDIT: I just realized that he probably only posted edits and not original comics.
the lefty ones are at least so bad theyre good, this is just diet stonetoss

I get it now.

I don't get it.

It's a Sisyphean task to try and get you to get it all. Can we just presume you don't get it and move on? Or if you want an explanation, at least do us the favor of explaining what you think is going on, so that we can have a laugh as a tax for explaining it.

In this case he calls chinese food "a chinky", which riled up his antifabuddies who then proceeded to cancel him. Which was effective, because they were his audience.

Deal, I'll make an explanation and THEN say I don't get it for the sake of tradition and flow.

Today the groundhog.... did not see his shadow.
An uneducated worker/manager of the venue likely found germicidal lamps/LEDs that fit the sockets and figured it fits so it works. This happens all the time, and not just in Asia where clear labelling of dangerous light sources are an afterthought.
These lamps won't make you blind short term but they'll cause severe irritation and if not treated immediately, it will have an adverse effect.

Another reason could be the stage lights had improper bandpass filters (only allows certain wavelengths out), which allowed intense UV light to go through. Or maybe people at the venue removed the filters because it was making the lights dimmer.
Quick job is MSPaint.

Blue = proper
Green = cheap shit
While a filter like this would work for low power LEDs and cheap cameras, with an intense source, it won't do anything.

In fact, a piece of plexiglass might have been better than shoddy cheap filters in terms of UV filtering.

The fact that the attendee who blew the lid first claimed to have perfect vision leads me to believe that he obviously doesn't wear glasses, and attendees who didn't need glasses were the most affected. Decent glasses will have antireflection coating that blocks out lots of UV. Exposure to the skin is still bad though.

There were even utterly manic talks about UV-C potentially being able to kill airbourne covid-19, and this prompted warnings from professionals.

An emergent health crisis, coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), has demanded strict disinfection and sterilization protocols to limit the spread. One such approach is the use of ultravioletC (UVC) radiation for surface decontamination in hospital settings. UVC is the most powerful of the UV wavelengths and, therefore, the most damaging. The radiation is used for sterilization of workplaces and objects, and although there is no current evidence, perhaps it may eradicate airborne coronavirus. Humans should not be subjected to this form of irradiation. This form of radiation comes with a health warning, and humans should not be in the vicinity when UVC sterilization is occurring. This case report deals with the unfortunate incidence of an operator affected by UVC radiation while working on a patient in an orthodontic clinic. The article will serve as a timely warning to clinicians that awareness of the safety protocols should be observed. Besides, we present some recommendations for the use of UVC depuration of dental operatories.

Many years ago I posted about unregulated Chinese lasers with improper power ratings and shitty output from their cheap diodes. I'll emphasise again that this stuff is not a joke. If you want to play with weird lights, fine. Do 10 minutes of reading and get proper protection.

Well, it actually does, but it's usually in serious containment where it's never, ever going to hit your eyes. If you've ever seen one of those UV disinfectors that are at the entry to a lot of hospitals and sometimes airports even, that you're supposed to put your electronics in, there would be no easy way to expose your eyes even to indirect (unfiltered) UV without engaging in some serious retard shit.

I phrased it poorly. I'm not saying it wouldn't work, I've seen idiots buy unlabelled UV-C lamps from AliExpress because they read these headlines, and ended up getting themselves photophobia. I recall two headlines, one was a family of 4 in the US and another of 3 in China.

If anyone's really still spooked about that dumb virus, get an air purifier.

The gap between a Darwin Award and yourself is 10 minutes of text. Think thrice before action.

The ones in hospitals are not just for that (which is actually still dangerous to a lot of immunocompromised people) but to every other thing that could be deadly to someone already in a hospital. And your phone is probably the vilest, filthiest thing you carry around with you, other than paper money.

I’d like to know that, too. Something about his site and/or Twitter getting hacked? Or maybe not, I don’t fully remember. Speaking of which, Martian Magazine/Foxford’s site never came back.

The problem is a cascade of hazardous behavior downplayed by influencers. You have people like LTT in an unvented room engraving with an unenclosed diode laser without eye protection. Consumers trust this guy, so the chemical fumes and laser radiation get ignored and suddenly eye protection and air quality standards go out the window.

Also it took place in hong kong. I know hong kong is a little different than the rest of china, but that kind of safety oversight seems par for the course.
