I think she mentioned that her parents threatened to disown her after the MJ grooming saga if she pulled that shit again. I would argue that pretending to be/claiming to be married to Jeffrey Dahmer, convincing a mentally ill person that they were communicating with the Unabomber, and writing pedo hybristophilia fiction is way worse than the Jacko stuff. Her parents took away some internet privileges after the MJ drama, so if they found out what she gets up to now then I can imagine them somehow completely stopping her internet access. Once he is the only person who is burdened with her, I can see him finally cracking.

A few pages back, Staph was complaining about her downstairs neighbour smoking in their unit, and said that her dad had gone down to have a word with them. He's also the one who had to step in and clean the malware off of her computer and deal with the banks after she fell for the latest scammer. Despite everything, he's still heavily invested in her in pretty much every sense. It's incredibly difficult for good people to write off their offspring for being losers, especially when that offspring has the additional excuse of being impaired in some way. Admitting that you've wasted your entire life on an adult child that from birth was neurologically incapable of caring for any living person but themselves is worse than a death, and I can see Staph's dad choosing to keep caring for her because he simply can't face the truth. Sometimes living a lie is the only way you can keep on living.

Dad definitely bails her out way too much than he should or that Stephanie deserves. Even then, something's gotta give at some point. This is a very old man under intense stress, enough stress to need to take prescription medication to barely function, about to lose a woman that has been by his side as a support system for decades. His wife's death may be a breaking point for him and his relationship with his daughter, especially if Stephanie even further deteriorates than she already has. I can see why he has endured Staph's shit for so long, but I can also see him being absolutely done after his wife is gone. Staph has made absolutely no effort to help or support him, and if anything abuses him even while he helps her yet again. Sometimes the loss of someone important to you can make you change perspectives or give you new drive to get rid of baggage. Even old men can say "I'm done."

That'll be his choice with Staph, whether he realizes it or not: stay supportive of a parasite because she's his daughter by law, or throw her monkey ass off his back so he can relax even a little before his end comes. I'd say it's 60 stay and 40 ditch. Whichever choice he makes, I feel for him losing his wife when the time comes. He comes across to me as a broken man as it is.

The only things we know about her parents are what we can guess through her stories, right? My mental model of the Cianfriglias is just as a couple of normal humans who maybe are too willing to give second chances.

It still seems really odd to me that your sped kid, the one who keeps getting caught by Nigerian princes, tells you they got $10k to do "trans outreach" and you just say "huh" and deposit it and use it to buy them bedsheets at Target.

In the US, a $10K deposit (cash or wire transfer) hits the amount at which the bank is required to report it to the feds/IRS. It isn't as if they care how she spends it- they just want to look out for criminal activity, money laundering, drugs/terrorists/whatever- but it does cause one to wonder.
