Most autistic thing you've purchased lately - c'mon feel the cringe

I haven't actually purchased this but I was so fucking close. Came across two old IMAX digital projectors for whatever reason being given away for free and I was very close to seeing how much it would cost to get them imported. I still am really thinking about getting into a ton of debt to get it imported. But then again, if I do I'll be in lolcow territory oh and it'll also be debt. I mean, the thought alone should constitute being enough to be in this thread.

I think it sounds pretty awesome tbh.

Aliexpress sale. Some blind box figurines I've been wanting for a while were discounted, so I got them.

Nah it does, the problem is of course that the projectors don't seem to be in the best of shape and I have no clue how to get them to work. In theory they seem to be able to do 4k which is good. Though, there are cheaper non cinema models for sale. But these would have been projectors actually used in a cinema, so when I eventually get down to getting my own home in 10 years (obviously going to put in the extra effort to buy land first and work with contractors to design it I can have a kickass set up. assuming the Bri'ish economy doesn't get worse) + They are older models, they also need ventilation and a control panel, a screen and a bunch of other things I haven't thought of. I'd also need to figure out how to get video to display. So, when adding something like 9k for shipping (which I don't have duh as I would have imported the two projectors) it basically becomes impractical for me to get them now. Not sure I have anywhere to actually store them + chances are they'll be stopped at customs.

"Oi do you have a loicense for that projector"

Not a purchase because I haven't made it yet, but I need you lads to chime in on whether I should or not.

On the Random Pics thread, a post about an artist I like and have a tiny bit of history with, Tim Bradstreet, sent me 17 years back in time and I recounted my little story. If you wanna read it, go here: https://kiwifarms.net/threads/random-pics-and-gifs.1234/post-17140243

The cliffnotes is: Hellblazer is one of my favorite comics ever, Mike Carey's time writing the book is one of my favorite eras of it, and Tim Bradstreet, the cover artist for that era is my favorite cover artist for the book.
When his time working on the book was about to end, he did a cool gesture towards the fans and added to the cover of his second to last issue, as graffiti on a wall, the names of a lot of users of a Hellblazer Fan Forum, in which I posted. And my old nickname made the wall.

I've always wanted to buy a big print of the cover directly from the artist, but I never could. But I probably could now, so I got to looking if he's selling them, and I couldn't find anything. And I don't want to bother Tim directly, because I found that he's dealing with his wife battling breast cancer. Not the time you'd want a fan pestering you about buying a print.
But I did find on eBay someone selling the issue itself with the cover, signed by Tim Bradstreet.

I put it on watchlist, and then I got a notification that the seller offered a 20% discount. Because of shipping and so, the final price would still be over twice the price of the item itself, but it's not unaffordable, and it's something specially meaningful to me. I'd frame it and put it on my wall.
Still, I'm always wary and indecisive when it comes to buying shit, particularly online, even more particularly from people rather than stores.

Lads, should I pull the trigger?

If you can afford it, sure, If you get something that wasn't as advertised. Contact the seller of payment processor about it. Paypal is the safest.

Do it. Do it. Do it.

It's a comic book; it's very unlikely to be counterfeit, and you only want it to display the cover, which is presumably visible in the listing photos. Check the seller's ratings if you're worried about inaccurate grading.

Like @Vingle said, PayPal/eBay are firmly on the buyer's side. DO IT.

ALRIGHT I DID IT

I wasn't concerned about a scam or something, it's more that I'm always very reticent to make this kind of purchase, and it takes some encouragement to go through with it. Perks of growing up fucking poor I guess.

Good for you, you're probably going to treasure that thing more than anyone else who could have purchased it. It's meaningful to you, and the artist made that with the intent of giving back to their community, so I'm sure they'd rather you have it than some guy speculating on comic books or holding onto it to consoom. FWIW, I'm the same as you, our livelihood is secured in this stage of life, but having grown up poor, I feel hyperaware of outgoings. Just a few days ago, my husband, who grew up financially stable, reached for $4 milk and my eyes about bulged out of my head because it was next to the $1.50 milk. These reflexes don't go away even after years of stability.
Anyway, I got a barometer because my eldest is obsessed with the weather and we've decided to homeschool after all, so I figure any interest they have, I should probably encourage and tie with our lessons.

Be sure to ask the kid how you'd use a barometer to tell the height of a building.

I have an entire shoebox full of autistic purchases I make:

Homemade soaps, scented bar soap, even unopened hotel room soaps.

Telegraphic codebook from the early 1900's. It's the kind that maps words and sentences to 5-letter groups. It's completely useless but I have a fascination with obsolete technology and related stuff.

I also have a fascination with "obsolete" technology.

Who knows? Maybe something might happen that would require you to pick some of those skills or technologies up.
