Losers have been sponsored forever. There are people who will bring such goof action, good spirit and project a shiny enough image that they will become very valuable ambassadors. Even when they truly are degenerates robbing Peter to pay Paul behind the scene. Austin is anything but.

The latter. His brain is physically damaged from prolonged drug abuse and addiction. He is not capable of introspection. I slightly disagree. Austin does have his rare moments of introspection, but his brain is so damaged that he doesn't actually try to postively act on those self-realizations. He instead uses them as a springboard to beg for more juice. Whether or not those moments are genuine introspection or an act is up for debate.

I will add that they have been happening less and less compared to only just a few months ago when I started watching live.

It would really take nothing more than a ten second convo with his parents: "I know I have a problem, so turn off my internet and take away my computer so I can't gamble anymore, no matter how angry I get." Even if he instantly regrets it and starts screaming until the internet and computer are restored, it would signal to them that all hope is not lost and might spur them into action to get him help instead.
