Valve introduces Steam Deck

I use mine with a kickstand case. So its simple to rest it on the kickstand if I want to. I also have textured grip pads on the back buttons and track pads which make using it a lot easier especially with shooters.

Worst comes to worst, the Deck is compatible with bluetooth controllers so you could always prop the thing up on something (I use a cheapo phone stand I got off Amazon a while back) and play that way.

It's enough to cause discomfort and numbness for me but I just shake my hands out and stop playing for a bit. The new model is a tiny bit lighter, not sure it'd make a difference.

Played with an external magnetic battery over a long bus trip. I never had an issue with the weight.Your milage may vary of course.

Beyond preferring that it run windows natively I can't think of any major complaints I've had with it.

I am not looking to run anything overly performing on it. If I really want to play AAA shlock I can stream it from my gaming PC. It'll be used to play old games, indies and emulation. I am a tad worried about the size/weight is all.

You can definitely play SOME newer games on it, though. Maybe not particularly well in a few cases, but they're still playable.

Unless you're a desk jockey soyboy who has zero forearm and upper body strength, it's not heavy enough to cause any discomfort. I've used mine in bed, holding it above my face, and it's never caused issues. I've taken it on numerous flights and the only problem is people in the lounge annoying you with questions about it.

Pretty much every new game runs on it, assuming it runs on Proton. Sure you have to turn down the settings for some, and tolerate 30fps, but I haven't really got anything that was unplayable on the Deck due to the hardware itself lacking power.

Which is why I said most games are, at the very least, playable, but not every new game hits a consistent 30 even with lowered settings. I've mentioned this before in other threads, but RE4make is a particular exception where the game has a heavily inconsistent framerate and tanks like a motherfucker in some areas of play, but despite this, the game is STILL very much playable – even if it isn't the smoothest experience.

Most other games I've played have been decent performers, though.

It's slightly heavier then a switch. I really can't see weight being an issue unless you have a physical disability. ( In a legitimate medical condition not a taunt)

Switch OLED is 422 grams with Joycons attached, non-OLED Switch is 399 grams, Deck LCD is 669 grams and Deck OLED is 640 grams, but the weight balancing makes it feel like less.

I might go for it. The only thing that bothers me honestly is the price. The Canadian dollar is worthless and we have very high sales taxes on top of it. 700 CAD for the 512 OLED model, then another 100 CAD for the dock, then taxes.

I do wonder if the official dock is worth it. Seems like a pretty painless way of making it work.

You're better off getting an aftermarket dock on Amazon, much cheaper and does the same job as the official one. The only thing the official one has are official firmware updates from Steam.

Not sure about which province you're in, but in Quebec it's around 100 CAD extra.

Official dock also comes with an extra charger, which some people believe makes it worth it.
