You have to fucking love that photo. Dr. Joe looks 1/2 way between annoyed and bored. Dr. Mary looks slightly confused and possibly slightly drunk or stoned. Grandma look like she's thinking "...Good enough...". Jeff has his "If you only knew how bad things really are" face on. Dave & Andy are clearly just checked out.

If Dave was a fictional character, you'd criticize the author for writing a hamfisted caricature. He accuses his father of being a malignant narcissist intent on destroying him, but then spends the next several years continuously libeling him online and escalating his harassment IRL by doing things like confronting his parents in public. He accuses his father of wanting to control him and using finances to keep him around so he has someone to beat up, but the second Joe genuinely appears to try and sever all contact in the form of a restraining order, Dave's rhetoric changes to "I wish he'd talk to me like an adult." Even with restraining orders in place, he weaponises the legal system to ensure ongoing interactions by bringing frivolous lawsuits against his parents.
It's clear he's projecting his own narcissistic tendencies onto his father. The only thing surprising to me about the situation is that Dave doesn't have a lot by way of evidence of an actual physical assault done to him. I honestly don't know how his father hasn't snapped and punched Dave in the mouth at least once by now. What a brutal disappointment Dave must be to everyone whose ever loved him. His parents stood by him when he was an unfocused youth. They stood by him when he was a professional and social failure. They stood by him when he trooned out in such a low effort manner that he doesn't even fail to pass. They would have continued supporting him if Dave hadn't actually attempted to destroy them.

The same story line runs through the lives of a lot of the lolcows, doesn't it?
This ravening desire to be a famous adored one who's young and so attractive and shall bear no frustrations or deprivations. They're mad that they aren't seen that way, aren't handed everything they want, are denied all the privileges they can imagine.
Forty guitars are not enough. It's as though their demands represent greatness to them. If I demand all the good guitars, I am therefore a great guitarist. If I demand the media focus on me, I am therefore important.
If they don't get what they demand, they are not lessened by the failure. They'll be sizzling with anger but be certain they have been victimized because they are great.
Beyond "to demand," they're not much into verbs. Weaker minded people like us think in terms of accomplishments, verbs, things people have done. But the great one knows that accomplishments are piffle to be lied about - and the lies serve as thinly veiled demands.
"I studied at Berklee" translates into "I demand you kneel before my superior knowledge and skill." Demanding that isn't just as good as having studied at Berklee, it's BETTER because to subjugate people with a lie means you control their reality.
And then come the kiwis. We chart the lies. We laugh at them. Of course we must be destroyed.

People in this thread have been referring to Dave and Andy as Liquid and Solid, but it's clear that what really happened is that Dave pulled the rare Inverse Otacon.
This is, of course, the reverse of the Otacon Scenario: you look exactly like your dad except you are significantly less greasy, are less whiny and vocally self-pitying, and thus have many more friends/girlfriends. I don't think anyone would create a secret handshake with Dave, much less give him an orphan to raise.

The reviews say this is a very good outfit and Adam Dowling is not only experienced and competent, but kind and compassionate too. Just the sort to listen to hours of soft ASMR-style whining as he struggles to get a narrative from his client. I wonder if Dave will be the one who finally breaks him.

It's way too late for that. Some poor clerk/intern has combed through Dave's social media. He hasn't deleted/privated the stream confronting his parents nor the one where he gets arrested by their house. Generally speaking, Dave isn't much for deleting, presumably bc he's always right. And if his social media is being cited as evidence, attempted deleting of materials COULD be construed as tampering (legal-minded farmers, feel free to correct me.)
When he deletes something, it's usually to avoid losing a social media account. I'm thinking of a Reddit group he created several years ago. You could report someone for being anti-queer, and the group would then mass report the offender's social media accounts. That lasted about two days, ha ha.
