I have never heard of any of the games its up against, what kind of bullshit award is this? What exactly is a "pro-social meaning or message" anyway apart from a roundabout way of saying "pozzed"?

That's pretty much it, yeah. The ones I recognize are Terra Nil (a kind of reverse industry strategy game where you terraform a ruined land back into a natural state instead of exploiting it for resources) and Chants of Sennaar, where the game's main gimmick is that you're trying to ascend a psuedo-Tower of Babel where each level has a society with its own culture and language, and you have to try to learn and interpret them to figure out the world around you. So I think the pro-social messages for those, at least, are environmental and... anti-war? I guess? Maybe just getting along.
Both are more games than GVH. The rest of the selection looks mediocre. Venba's pretty much only there because "brown people story."

I know this isn't the way their minds work, but this idiotic notion that characters exist independently of the stories they're in, and can't be treated differently in other works...

If Disney made a new show where Mickey was gay, they would call it a bold new inclusive choice.

Goodbye Volcano High had a non-binary Fang. Snoot Game is different, it has a Fang who is going through some shit and isn't actually non-binary and realizes that by the end.

Should be completely uncontroversial, if you can do one you can do the other, right?

That would apparently be "erasing representation." People even throw fits if a character they headcanon to be queer turns out straight.

This would be a nice way to meet them in the middle if they weren’t so autistic about it, it’s like when tumblr fandoms start headcanoning a character as gay and freaking out at any other pairing, official or not.

Also, I downloaded and started Snoot Game and it’s genuinely great, I’m looking forward to playing Wani when it comes out, that clip someone posted a while ago of them dancing is fucking adorable.

I haven’t heard of half of these, but from the ones I have heard of, Tchia is some shitty botw clone about a Hawaiian girl. Venba is a shitty 1 hour long game about pajeet immigrants with a cooking mini-game.

The fact that they split the indie game category into best indipendent indie and best indie (with best debut indie having Pizza tower, so being the most prestigious one) should tell you everything.
Our beloved Snoot game rip-off getting a single nomination for a side category is embarassing.
I'm sure it will lose anyway to the other canadian game about indian people with a ugly artstyle.

Honestly, I think the latter gets way mo attention than the former, like I said even on furry reddits Snoot Game gets a mo positive buzz than GVH which isnt even a blip.
