Child actors with few exceptions (the Malcolm in the Middle boys made bank) are very much underpaid for their performance. Seriously you think there's Gumball "F-U" money? First off that cartoon was never a huge ratings draw, he was the 3rd actor to voice the character. Mommy/Daddy/Hollywood Agent tells the production they want junior to get a raise? The production studio laughs and gets a new actor. Real big shot Voice Actors (Mark Hamill, Billy West, Grey DeLisle) purportedly only make money in the 6 Figure range and they're doing constant work. Cantu is not a millionaire. If I could trade places and have a gravy train job I would easily be a stupidly popular Youtuber like Dream rather than be a HOLLYWOOD Star.

Spoiler for The Walking Dead Comics and shitty TV Show: I am 100% certain there was no bag for Cantu for his role on The Walking Dead. First off that spinoff has not done anywhere near the ratings numbers of the original show. Secondly just like cartoons AMC management has just as much sway to get rid of actors who want too much money and aren't huge draws. They literally can just write that a major character has been bitten by a Zombie and dies. In TWD comics Carl Grimes is one of the most important characters on the show, and the ending to the comic is that Carl Grimes is the legacy of the deceased Rick Grimes. In the TV Show Carl just dies in Season 8. And look I'm just a retard speculating in a medium that I've never been involved with but I think that happened because AMC determined that no one really gave a damn about Carl Grimes. People watched TWD for Rick Grimes and Hideo Kojima's boyfriend Norman Reedus.

Continuing off this tangent, The Amazing World of Gumball came in during the decline years of Cartoon Network, and was overshadowed by Regular Show and Adventure Time. My understanding is the show's popularity among its target demographic was much smaller than even niche shows in CN's peak (Sheep in the Big City, Camp Lazlo, etc). Gumball just wouldn't be raking in enough cash to pay out big bucks to a child actor.
