2023 Israel-Palestine Armed Conflict

Day 21 of the Gaza Offensive

Israel-Hamas War Update - November 16, 2023 - Day 41

Day 10 & 11 - November 5 & 6 - Slow IDF advances due to Hamas tunnels

November 5November 6
1699918760215.png1700276886758.png
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have made minimal advances in these directions:
  1. North Gaza (North Shoreline/Atatra): Towards Al-Shati Camp (November 5) and towards Atatra (November 6), facing heavy Palestinian resistance
  2. South-west Gaza: Towards Saladin Road and No. 10 Street intersection (November 5)
These slow advances are due to the IDF's focus on dismantling one of the biggest obstacles set by the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), the intricate tunnel network under Gaza. IDF troops have focused on destroying their entrances while being hassled by Hamas fighters. Meanwhile,
  1. Beit Hanoun (North-east Gaza): IDF and Hamas have clashed with each other with no net gain in territory. (November 5)

Day 12 - November 7 - More slow advances by the IDF

1700278669689.png1700278635467.png
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have made minimal advances in these directions:
  1. North Gaza (North Shoreline/Atatra): IDF captured a series of blocks along and south of Salah Khalaf Street, which moved the frontline to Omar Bin Al-Khattab Street, and now reaching the borders of the Al-Shati Refugee Camp.
  2. South-west Gaza: IDF troops advanced northwards and reached Awn Shawwaa Street.
Video footage confirm the IDF has cut the Gaza Strip into two.

Day 14 - November 9 - IDF makes more advances over the coast of Gaza

1700279456204.png
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have made minimal advances in these directions:
  1. North Gaza (Atatra/Al-Shati/Jabalia): Clashes have occurred between the IDF and Hamas in the western outskirts of Jabalia Refugee Camp. In addition, the IDF have reached the first houses of the Al-Shati Refugee Camp.
    1. Two new key locations: Al-Shati and Jabalia Refugee Camps, composing of Palestinian refugees who fled or were expelled from Israel, and are respectively the third-largest and the largest refugee camps in Gaza. Al-Shati is along the shoreline while Jabalia is north of Jabalia city, which is north-east of Gaza.
  2. South-west Gaza: The IDF expanded the control over the coast of Gaza by advancing along Rashid Street towards the port reaching the Riashi roundabout (position of the tanks: 31.513407, 34.424561), where they raised the Israeli flag over the occupied area.

Day 15 - November 10 - IDF successfully launched two massive breakthroughs into Gaza, reaching the Palestinian Parliament Building

1700281954695.png1700282534804.png
12
The IDF have made two significant breaktroughs in these directions:
  1. North Gaza (Atatra/Al-Shati/Jabalia): The IDF made a breakthrought in Sheikh Radwan District of Gaza, which is east of the Al-Shati Refugee Camp, and reached the Ranteesi Specialist Hospital, on the southwest border of Sheikh Radwan. There was a shooting that occurred among civilians leaving the hospital when IDF troops reached the building. (1) In addition, Israeli troops captured Badr Complex. (2)
  2. South-west Gaza (Shifa Hospital/Zeitoun): The IDF launched a major successful attack over the coast of Gaza and captured the Ansar Government Complex and a series of blocks inside Southern Remal district. They now have reached the Palestinian Legislative Council Building, or the Palestinian Parliament Building, which is the city hall of Gaza, in the district of Zeitoun. In addition, they also have reached the Al-Shifa Hospital. (2) From this, we can see that the IDF's plan is to cut Hamas-held Gaza from the Mediterranean Sea.
    1. New key locations: Al-Shifa Hospital, which Israel has stated that the complex is a Hamas stronghold, and Zeitoun, a district south-east of the hospital.
A shooting has occurred when Palestinian civilians trying to
evacuate Al-Shifa Hospital as Israeli troops entered the premises. (credit to @EyeGuy)

Day 16 - November 11 - Hamas defensive positions are crippled everywhere as Israeli forces enter central Atatra and Beit Hanoun

1700283709367.png1700283796467.png
12
The IDF have captured numerous positions around Hamas-held Gaza, reflecting the deterioration of Hamas' defensive capabilities:
  1. South-west Gaza (Shifa Hospital/Zeitoun):
    1. The IDF took control over the Gaza Port and a series of buildings northwest of Al-Shifa Hospital in its plan to link with IDF toops in Al-Shati Refugee Camp. (1) Israeli troops then seized control of the Palestinian Legislative Council Building/Palestinian Parliament Building and reached Wehda Street where civilians are evacuating Al-Shifa Hospital, which is almost surrounded.
    2. IDF troops seized control of more buildings and land in the suburb of Wahsh, which is west of Gaza. (2)
  2. North Gaza (Atatra/Al-Shati/Jabalia): IDF troops captured most of Atatra and continue making small advances towards Jabalia and Al-Shati Refugee Camps. (2)
  3. Beit Hanoun (North-east Gaza): IDF have already taken 40% of the town while troops are also advancing to Um Al-Nasser, a town between Atatra and Beit Hanoun.

Day 17 & 18 - November 12 & 13 - Hamas loses control of the entire shoreline along Gaza as Israel consolidates control

1700285327722.png1700285352934.png
12
  • The last portions of the shoreline along Gaza is now a grey area, as IDF vehicles are spotted in this area, giving the conclusion that Hamas has lost control and that the IDF forces from North Gaza in the Al-Shati Refugee Camp direction are linking with IDF forces from South-west Gaza in the Zeitoun direction.
  • After the capture of Palestinian Parliament building, IDF continued advancing south along Omar al Mukhtar Street, where troops entered the center of Zeitoun District of Gaza amongst heavy resistance by Palestinian groups.
  • As these two directions merge, I will combine these axis into a North-west direction as the IDF assaults Gaza from there. Future IDF assaults from Wahsh will be changed into West direction while assaults from Atatra will remain as North direction.

Day 19 - November 14 - Israel seizes control of the entire shoreline along the Hamas-held city of Gaza, leaving Gaza fully encircled in-land

1700286166820.png
  • North-west Gaza (Zeitoun/Al-Shati/Al-Shifa):
    • The IDF have entered the Al-Shati Refugee Camp and seized most of the blocks there. WIth the capture of most of the camp, the Israeli troops from the south-west and north directions were linked up. Now, Gaza is fully encircled in-land as it is closed off from the Mediterranean Sea.
    • Meanwhile, IDF forces have surrounded Al-Shifa Hospital, a Hamas stronghold, and are now assaulting the complex. In addition, the IDF has launched their assault into the city center of Gaza by advancing into Zeitoun District along Omar al Mukhtar Street by taking control over Al-Azhar and Islamic University, Arafat's police station, and the Abu Khadra Government Complex. The IDF have reached the intersection of Omar al Mukhtar Street and Bour Said Road, where they are now encountering resistance from Hamas.

Day 20 & 21 - November 15 & 16 - Israel consolidates the link and is coming closer towards the city center of Gaza

November 15
November 16
1700287326639.png1700287475560.png
12
  • North-west Gaza (Zeitoun/Al-Shati/Al-Shifa):
    • The IDF have seized control over the Hamas stronghold Al-Shifa Hospital and reached the roundabout intersection of Yousif Alathma Street and Abdul Qader Al-Husseini Street in Rimal District, while clashing with Palestinian forces are taking place close to Al-Yarmouk Stadium and Israa University. (1)
    • Israeli forces continued advancing along Omar Al-Mukhtar Street and entered Sabra District, taking control over the intersection of Omar al Mukhtar Street and Bour Said Road. After this, IDF forces captured Firas Market, and thus, reached Gaza Municipality and Al-Ahli Baptist Hospital, which is in the urban core of Gaza. (2)

Conclusion

20231118_gaza.jpg
Israel has constant success over the past two weeks and we see Hamas unable to prevent these pushes by the IDF. The slow advances due to the priority of the IDF to destroy the tunnels have worked out in the long run as IDF has captured a lot of city blocks over the period. We see the IDF's plan is to cut Gaza off from the shoreline and then launch their assault into the city center of Gaza.

No territorial changes as of now, hence update is until Thursday (November 16).

Six more IDF losses in Gaza:

New poll shows a plurality (44%) of Israelis support reestablishing settlements in Gaza. 39% oppose it and 17% expressed no opinion:
IMG_20231118_185853_695.jpg
When asked to pick from one of a list of options, they gave their preferences as follows:
IMG_20231118_185850_220.jpg
32% - permanent occupation and reestablishment of settlements
30% - hand it over to an international body
14% - maintain a permanent military occupation (without settlements)
10% - hand it over to the Palestinian Authority
14% - no opinion

Airstrikes near the Indonesian Hospital:

The IDF is offering a new service option for Haredim - joining a Hesder company in the Golani and Nahal Brigades:
IMG_20231118_200220_983.jpg
There were noises before the war about the IDF shutting down some of the Haredi combat units due to lack of recruits, but judging by this they're scrambling to keep up with the numbers wanting to join.

You have to admire Elon Musk for his trolling, if nothing else:

They're a bunch of spoiled children who cannot accept that sometimes you can't get your way even if you're really, really, really sure that you're in the right. Sometimes things happen that enrage you, and you are powerless to stop those things, and you have to deal with it.

Most people accept this by adulthood, but not these people. So they keep escalating, because this will finally be the thing that somehow magically tips the scales and gives the movie a happy ending. "Shutting down the Bay Bridge" and "causing a ceasefire in Gaza" have no causal connection, but that doesn't matter if your mind operates on the same level as a toddler who thinks throwing himself on the ground and screaming will reverse the fact that he just dropped his ice cream cone.

And it wouldn't be a pro-Palestine protest without a fat they/them:

lol Yeah indeed.

I'm not sure if the person replying is trying to troll too, or be ironic... or what. But i refuse to believe the "normal political speech" line could possibly be stated seriously here without a hint of irony.. I just can't! These same exact type of people spent the better part of the last decade screeching about, and defending the censorship of, opinions that easily 2/3rds of the country likely held in some form and that at the very least half the country did in even more... overt form... now crying at the mere idea that their literal pro genocide speech might get removed. I almost can't even.... just...
:stress:

The icing on the cake being that they are completely clueless to the fact that they are being trolled. WITH THEIR OWN TALKING POINTS! lol

Yup, a near perfect description of them and their mentality. Also it's part of being raised on the idea that the more extreme and hysterical someone is, the more "real", "authentic" and "correct" they are too. It's all about performance, not actually doing anything constructive or helpful to the cause. Totally lost in all this is that a component in protest is to get people to sympathizes with your cause, and maybe even change opinions. Instead the left uses it as theater to virtue signal to their own supporters and show the world how super cereal they are in the most noxious and aggravating way possible. Pissing off everyone else and being colossally annoying and despicable in the process. (OC that's when not destroying other people's things and or putting lives at risk)

Didn't hear about this when it happened, probably because even most of the big pro-Palestinian personalities sensed something was off from the beginning. So a driver just screamed and swerved at a random brown-looking guy who could have just as easily been called Jose or Jacob? And just happened to hit a Palestinian, the exact ethnicity he was yelling about?

Ayyad not only wasn't struck by a vehicle nor subjected to racial slurs, but ... was actually injured during an earlier fight with his brother, 19-year-old Khalil A. Ayyad.

lol

Also, anyone who still says "Ashkenazi Jews are just Europeans and not true Semitics like Arabs":

Love this development. Finkelstein is one of the OGs of this conflict and knowledgeable, and he makes other Jews seethe a tremendous amount
Ben will lose a few nights of sleep pondering what to do with stronk preggy bleqqq independent women Candace
As for Elon moaning about decolonization and slogans, well guess what, Israelis are now decolonizing Gaza and it implies a genocide too.
Maybe ban the IDF too ELON!??

BillboardChris, the Canadian anti-tranny crusader, has taken to polling Xitter on whether Herr Hitler (as Churchill addressed him), if alive today, should be banned from Xitter.

The poll didn't go as he expected, with the complete irony lost on him.

The self-important resignation letter:

my resignation ( a )

I have resigned as poetry editor of The New York Times Magazine.

The Israeli state's U.S-backed war against the people of Gaza is not a war for anyone. There is no safety in it or from it, not for Israel, not for the United States or Europe, and especially not for the many Jewish people slandered by those who claim falsely to fight in their names. Its only profit is the deadly profit of oil interests and weapon manufacturers.

The world, the future, our hearts—everything grows smaller and harder from from this war. It is not only a war of missiles and land invasions. It is an ongoing war against the people of Palestine, people who have resisted through decades of occupation, forced dislocation, deprivation, surveillance, siege, imprisonment, and torture.

Because our status quo is self-expression, sometimes the most effective mode of protest for artists is to refuse.

I can’t write about poetry amidst the "reasonable" tones of those who aim to acclimatize us to this unreasonable suffering. No more ghoulish euphemisms. No more verbally sanitized hellscapes. No more warmongering lies.

If this resignation leaves a hole in the news the size of poetry, then that is the true shape of the present.

No deal yet, per US National Security Council Spokesperson:

Dresden gets thrown around as an example of an Allied War Crime largely due to Curtis "Bombs Away" Le May who famously said

"If you kill enough of them, they stop fighting. Every soldier thinks something of the moral aspects of what he is doing. But all war is immoral and if you let that bother you, you're not a good soldier."

His general attitude to the USAF bombing campaign of Germany and Japan when asked about whether or not his units actions were in keeping with the laws of war. Keep in mind Strategic Bombing was a new concept at the time. The idea that cities could leveled from the air wasnt even something considered back when the war started. People were still handwringing over how it might be possible to surrender to a fighter aircraft doing strafing runs.

What LeMay did to Japan however was not a war crime, and not just because he was on the winning the side. The USAF did not have a deliberate strategy of attacking the German Population. It was bombing factories, bridges, railway yards and so on. It just so happened lots of civilians worked in these places and lived nearby. And WW2 bombs had shit accuracy.

What LeMay meant in that quote was the purpose of war is too kill people, and if you get hung up on the morality of killing to the point you become incapable of carrying out the missions you are going to fail at your job as a soldier.
Remember, there's no such thing as a "war crime" if you're on the winning side. It just seems like those kinds of trials are just victor's vengeance in a way. Like with Germany in World War I.
