This whole "Game Preservation" clique/ideology/sperging is peak schitzo and you can't convince me otherwise. @Metaverse Knight summed it up pretty well. I've briefly talked about the situation before. As luck would have it, Spawn Wave has a Pink Gorilla shirt that he wears in some of his videos. If it turns out that this whole push to "make more people aware about games presevation" through WATA, Limited Run, FOMO stuff, buying in bulk from digital storefronts while also making a bunch of Tweets/video essays condeming "da big corps" for taking their stores down was to actually manipulate the retro game market and money-launder off of it... That's peak Cali hypocrisy in action, right there.

From what I remember, the members of HiddenBlock during its peak were SpaceHamster, Brutalmoose, Balrog's Game Room, and Yungtown. Surprised no one brought up Balrog yet.

This video where Jirard buys all the games on the eshop irritated me because he makes himself out to be a martyr who spends 23 grand so that all these games can be preserved for the rest of us ungrateful peasants. It struck me as performative whilst achieving nothing.

Nobody can play the games because they're just being given to some soy video games archive that couldn't share the games even if they wanted to because it would be piracy and Nintendo would sue them into the dirt. Pirates do the same service, but better because they don't act like Christ on a cross because you can actually PLAY the preserved games.

If you don't agree with the actions of a corporation, giving them $23,000 is the dumbest way to make your point. But that is irrelevant, the entire video existed so that he could appear like a masochist who suffers for his audience and gamers at large because he's just such a great guy (who steals from charity).

It was either in this thread or the community happenings thread but someone mentioned that everything Jirard went through in his Buying the Eshop video would have been impossible without 3DS hacking since downloaded games are linked to the 3DS and Nintendo account that purchased them.

The video should have spoken about how Nintendo and the eshop are anti-consumerist in their practices and how it's bad that many games are lost to time. The solution is piracy. If you can't buy the games anymore then you might as well steal them. The solution isn't give Nintendo 23 grand, a library that nobody can access is pointless.

I should also say that I don't really care about Nintendo or the 3DS eshop closing. There are more important things in life and if something like this keeps you up at night you're an idiot with fucked up priorities. The consoles are kids toys and if you really want to play any of the games you've been able to emulate 99% of them for over half a decade now.

I hate parasocial relationships. How can these idiots be so socially blind to the fact that their big fat beared overlord siphoned over half a million dollars and then hogged it while lying about where the money went?

And it doesn't matter what the fuck they say in a statement. We need definitive proof that the money is still there. Open Hand and Jirad have already proven that they can't be trusted on their words alone.

I think it’s ironic his fans want to discredit and insult Muta and Karl for bringing all of this to light. Their fair maiden Jirard is more than willing to talk about charity issues with Karl and Muta than he is with them, the people who funded him. Karl and Muta may be ebil bad nazis(their words, not mine), but Jirard has more respect for them as peers than he does for his paypig plebs. I don’t think it’s gotten in their heads yet that he does not feel the need to address them, at all, whatsoever. If Jirard had done no wrongdoing, which they claim, there will be nothing from stopping him from putting out a reasonable explanation. What they fail to understand is silence and lawyers does not mean they have to write the perfect letter to maintain their innocence, it means they have to mitigate as much legal damage, both criminal and civil as possible. Innocent until proven guilty is not quite applicable in this case. The severity of the punishment is.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I thought cartridges and CDs eventually degrade and lose the data on them. I thought emulation is the only sound way to preserve games. This emulation is gatekeeping argument is going over my head. I can access emulation way easier than looking for physical junk in smelly vintage game stores.

That is correct. Emulation is the only way forward and Jirard and VGHF's attempts to muddy the water are actively harming preservation. That's what really gets me about all this, Jirard doesn't care about preservation. He just wants his good boy points for getting an excuse to consoom.

In my eyes, his videos about "preservation" and his work with VGHF should be spotlighted right alongside his charity fraud, it might not be as bad as what he's done with Open Hand, but he's messing with things that didn't need to be messed with all for a shitty retro market bubble scheme, and videos to make him appear virtuous so that he can get his good boy points.

The cognitive dissonance is staggering. I guess I should have seen that coming when they seemingly didn't react to Jirad straight-up admitting he knew about the fraud. How can anyone of a sound mind be like "Nah, he's innocent" after that? I mean....that's basically wrongdoing right there.

Then again, they may be literal children.

And Jirad is gonna be so fucked if we get those bank statements and it turns out that the money isn't there.
