Manual Car Master Race thread

I’ve driven manual for a while now, I have an old manual mini truck and even though it doesn’t have a lot of power. It’s pretty fun to drive compared to my daily. It’s an s10 with the 5 speed.

It's pretty simple. Automatic is for commuting. Manual is for fun driving.

Manual transmissions are great both for their cheaper maintenance/replacement costs compared to automatics and for being a surprisingly effective anti-theft feature.

Seriously just google “car thief can't drive manual” and enjoy all the videos. Car thieves are fucking stupid.

Now a days people expect to mash the throttle and get 0-100 in less than five seconds, which I think is missing the point. On a manual car, getting up to speed quickly involves multiple gear changes and it's something you have to work for and learn how to do properly. If you are like me and live in a area with a lot of long and straight back roads and no traffic police you will understand. If you can have a old manual car with a V8 it's a blast to drive.

Or if you live somewhere that's hilly with twisty roads, you can really enjoy yourself in a modestly powered small manual car. It's the most fun you can have without breaking the speed limit. There's a reason why the real star of Initial D is the AE86.

All the twisty roads I have in my area are on hills and those tend to have very low speed limits as to not disturb people living next to them and there are few level crossings there as well, so that's that. Still better than the cities.
There is one car that is a blast to drive, provided you have the finesse to do it.

Since the majority of Americans drive automatics, you are severely limiting your ability to sell your car if you don't drive it until its a stationary home for raccoons.
A stick is also very penis like and it makes you look like you are jerking someone off intermittently.
Another negative point is you will be lumped in with those douchebags that hold the clutch in and rev their engine at red lights.

I've got a 6 speed auto box in my daily now guess I may as well just drive it straight to fagsville now but driving a manual isn't the flex you think it is unless it was a 3 on the tree or a fucking 12 gear truck.

Controversial opinion: you should be disallowed from driving an auto until you have passed a manual transmission test under local ordinance. This would reduce the large number of retards who essentially never graduated beyond 'go-kart go brrrrrrr' driving mentality.
Australia has some thing where if you take your driving test in an automatic it'll say so on your licence and can't drive manual or some such nonsense I dunno I done my test in the 80s you could do what you wanted drive what you wanted

I'm glad I did my test in the early '90s. Got my licence in an auto and taught myself manual as soon as I got my Ps.

Where I live manuals are really common for two reasons:
  • lots of rich people with Porsches
  • lots of preserved old vehicles, made long before automatics
So you are pretty much expected to have a manual license and manual is required to get the A (motorcycle) D (transit vehicle) categories, which I have. It's only 6 additional hours in the driving course and less problems down the line, plus some driving schools only teach on manual cars (even if you get a manual license you are taught how the manual and automatic transmissions work, which I think is good since people understand what they are driving) so there is that.

I love me manuals in luxury cars. There's just something not right with that combo but I love it. I managed to find and buy a fully loaded manual BMW from the golden era and am enjoying every bit of it as my daily. It makes maintenance super easy too. All you gotta worry about are the shaft seals. Meanwhile the autobox from my other car is about to get dropped for a rebuild. Synchros are probably a lifetime part unless you're a retard with shifting or have an absolute ton of miles on it.

That's why I can't sell my S2000...too much fun at legal speeds. My Aston looks good and gets people moist, but I really can't enjoy it for more than a few seconds without having to ease off the throttle.
