This is because most old farty toy collectors are just like any other hobby community, disdainful of change.
Anyway if you look at the list things, one really stands out:

It got me curious as funny toy robots is not a fiefdom where I would expect to encounter hardcore intersectional trollinism flamewars. But once you check out the discussion tab, the picture unravels:

1) Willis found a tumblr where shitposts against toy cartoon robot women are showcased
2) Willis uses the existence of said page that no one knows or cares about to justify adding the SJBuzzord
3) If you disagree to it, you're obviously gamergate

This is a man that in the past has commissioned guro porn of his dumb comic characters by the way.

Also, his Early Life is documented in his tumblr where he talks about Dumbing of Age and his commentary for his old Walkyverse strips. That's how we know he didn't masturbate until he was 19 because he was convinced Grandma was watching him, he tried to convert a lesbian, and he wanted a woman to come along and rape him so he could lose his virginity while still being a good boy who waited until marriage.

That last one will explain some things, because on his tumblr and other places he was very dismissive of the idea that a woman could ever rape a man and laughed at dudes who said they were molested by female teachers. While he copy/pastes backgrounds, he's autistic about drawing the characters individually in every panel, even if he could get away with the same drawing, which is funny because he admitted he dropped all his other projects for DoA because it's easier to draw.

But now, I must jump to a more recent strip. So, recently, there was an arc where Walky and Sal's parents came back, and they immediately hated Walky's new girlfriend Lucy for being a fake nerd girl a black, but started treating Sal better because she was dating Danny. Well, the next day, Sal shows up to meet her parents without Danny, and the mother just starts lashing out for no reason because Willis has mommy issues, so Sal walks away... and then this strip happens:

Sal... you were caught red-handed robbing a convenience store, the second one that night/afternoon/whenever it was supposed to be. There were eye witnesses, one of whom was a boy you took hostage by holding a knife to his neck. A knife sharp enough that a teenage girl was able to drive it through your hand. And this was after an extended period of time where you as a teenage girl were staying out and not coming home until dawn. Your mother punished you by taking the one thing you really cared about until you straightened up, and your reaction was to go rob two convenience stores.

Why the fuck would any parent try and fight the charges? You were clearly heading down a bad road and nothing they did was going to fix it, the only thing they could do was keep you out of juvie. Yes, they're rich, but you had proven yourself to not be worth the time or effort. You were not the victim, you were a criminal. Stop pretending it was the other way around.

He doesn't care about making his characters likeable or even right. Because he wants people to point out their flaws so he can point and yell "Bigot!" in order to fill in the hole in his soul that comes from never being a hero from one of his cartoons.

It's sad because he's pretty successful, especially compared to most webcomics out there, but he's such an insecure little shit he needs to make up scenarios where he's this great hero making a difference for the minorities.

It's Walky, his smash hit, was the sweet spot where he would spouse his antitheistic ideas and be tolerated for it and where the inherent jerkassery of his characters were sync'd with the zeitgeist of the era, thus softening any obnoxiousness.

By the time he discovered Tumblr and went full retard woke as still very fringe so he started alienating people right there, then woke got mainstream and he got the backlash. He never properly profited for the wokegeddon.

I'm fairly sure that his website is kept at a loss nowadays seeing that it is frankly outdated and has been progressively been paywalled and gatekept.

How he makes a living, it's anyone guess, but it surely isn't from DoA anymore if it ever was.

Well DOA is in a separate continuity, I think it's more that by the time the comic started, he had 13 years of experience, enough to build up a fan base, who then told their fans, and updating week daily, at the time, really helped him get the ball rolling. People were able to jump on early for a comic that didn't have a huge backlog at the time, but updated frequently enough that the story moved at a decent pace. You also have to remember that early DOA wasn't as political as Shortpacked was, so the people who were turned off by Willis' ego flogging didn't have to deal with it... as obviously. What people didn't realize was they were supposed to think Joyce was automatically wrong for her Christian beliefs and the liberals were right, rather than a balanced 'both sides' thing that many readers say it as.

It was also during the rise of the feminist con artist, and works starring women got an automatic boost. While it was an ensemble, the main characters were Joyce, Dorothy, Amber and Billie, with Sarah, Dina, Ruth and Sal as secondaries, and the boys were mostly side characters there for the girls. Even Ethan being gay was more so Amber and Joyce could react to it. And they had, mostly, distinct personalities. While they had a lot of Willis' issues, they were discernable beyond wanting to go shopping and talk about boys, plus they were flawed. So many feminist blogs held him up as a true male ally, and that shit went to his head very quickly.

As for how he makes his money, surprisingly enough he still has a very devoted fan base. His Graphtreon shows a steady rise of Patrons, and he was earning five grand a month when he stopped making his income invisible, which was at just under 2100 members. And he still does kickstarters for his books. His last one, which just ended, had 997 backers giving him $57197. Which is lower than he used to get, but still a decent annual income for anyone.

He still has enough of a devoted fan base to keep going. But, we'll see how he's doing in five or so years.
