Bigot Brigade Something Awful and Friends - The roller-coaster train-wreck embarrassing downfall of a Web 1.0 giant and its tick offspring like from Cloverfield

Bro you're operating on the same level as a user named doctor jizzmopper who can't help but autistically demand his ten dollars back every time he posts, Keep going at it if you really want but it might be time to take a breathe ya know?

Okay I'll back off for a bit but seriously, the dick-riding on this guy is unendurable. Yes, he presided over one of the best periods of the Internet.

No, we do not need to ride his dick as some of you people seem to want to do.

I'll stay out of this thread, though, the SGG thread has some srs bsns to be done.

Enjoy your slurping.

I'm not mad, I just don't want to discourage content, and more than one person has told me I'm discouraging content.

Lol remember that time @AnOminous made a list in the mod forum of all the users he plans on banning for any sleight, real or imagined, just because they disagree with him?

That sounds like something a bad mod would do. One time a BYOB mod on our forums did such a thing, and we immediately banned him, because creating a secret shit list is not only an abuse of power, but it's a clear demonstration of a massive inferiority complex. Since AnOminous has proven he can discern between bad mods (SA Forums) and good mods (uh, I guess everywhere else), I refuse to believe he could engage in something so hypocritical.

What, like what Ozma and fistgrrl used to do?

@Lowtax I think it cool that you are willing to answer questions, despite the salt from both sides.
However, you keep saying you have other shit to do and you are going to be online anymore, but then stay here and kept posting. You did it in the shmorky thread when you said your daughter had whooping cough and like a good dad you were logging off. Now you have done it in this thread saying you had something to do on twitch which was way more important because we are shitlords (paraphrasing).

So stop acting like you don't care because you obviously do, maybe start focusing on just straight up answering question instead of responding to people talking trash. People will care more about what you say and eventually others will stop trying to goad you into giving them attention.

No offense but you've been on the Internet long enough to know how this shit works...

@Lowtax I've "known" of you since you posted rec.music.industrial and we've played Quake together a few times. I was also a member of SA for years and now I post on one of the SASS sites. I think you're mistaken on some of the aspects of the "anti-SomethingAwful" sites. While there are some people who are more doxx happy and want to see all the mods and admins and yourself in jail for whatever reason, they mostly exist to discuss a lot of the same topics that were on SomethingAwful but in an environment where you can't be punished for having a opinion the mods disagree with or for grammar or for calling out stupid posters. There's a certain form of restraint required for posting on SomethingAwful, which is to say, you can lose your posting privileges for a rule you may not be aware you are violating or if you get on a moderator's bad side. While this is good for keeping out spam and some bad stuff, as the culture of the site changes, it causes everyone to need to conform to the established norms that may have not existed when someone signed up and they may disagree with them.

On the offsites, this doesn't happen and you can vent frustration towards certain posters and commiserate without fear of reprisal. This can lead to things getting a little slap-happy but overall it's just another place to post. There's very little to post about on SASS now because not much crazy happens, so it has become a more general forum. Most of the members also hold current accounts on SA so it's not the same scorned permabanned dudes anymore. SA is still useful for content, that is for sure.

Throughout the forums entire, and I do mean entire, history, people have always complained about nearly every mod. After a while, it just simply became white noise to me, because I was so used to hearing the moderation sucks and nobody can do their job and everything is wrong, that when there was a legit bad mod, I'd just assume people were exaggerating once again and crying wolf.
I doubt people would give as much of a shit if they were not at the mercy of some autistic/pedo/sexual deviant whether they could keep their $10+ dollars account, or loose it at a whim. Hell even your latest cunt/support payment recipient goes on stupid banning sprees that do nothing other than drive away poster (she recently banned someone for using the word 'twat', I mean Jesus how fucking pathetic is that? Use the word 'twat' and maybe LadyAmbien sees it and throws around the banhammer like a bloody tampon).

I only found SASS after the Aatrek mysterious demodding where no-one was allowed to mention he fucked an 8 year old. After seeing the actual Doxx and the handwringing that surrounded his eventual banning; well I was disgusted. And then of course the rest of it came out slowly.

SA: Call someone a twat = instaban, fuck an 8 yr old = days of debating if you're worth keeping around or not.

Once upon a time you would not have hesitated in calling Magenta Alert; now you shelter the sick fuckers.

LOL wasn't it Shivadis or whatever that did that.

Yeah, I've been wanting to for years now, but the creative spark I originally had back around 1999 is very difficult for me to find. Plus I have a wife, three kids, four dogs, and an ex-wife, so I don't really have the freedom of waking up at 2:00 AM and writing because a certain idea popped into my head. It's very frustrating.

Have you considered doing some cleaning up of sorts around the website and letting questionable or antagonistic people go? Would some of the old greats like Fragmaster be interested in coming back to Make SA Great Again? I know that Slowbeef and Diabetus were integral to the formation of "let's play" which is one of the farthest reaching things that has ever come out of SA. Would they be willing to help steer the site back to its original roots? Would you be willing to rethink/revisit questionable bans in the past and absolve those users to give them second chances?

It's never too late to make a 180. SA is one of the last vestiges of "Web 1.0" that's still around and still somewhat relevant. You wouldn't need to sell out like Stile Project or anything, but with the right team I can't see SA failing.

Um, nobody moderating or adminning the forums had a shit list, so I'm not sure where you got that crack info from.

Okay, let me try to explain what I'm attempting to do here. I am trying to answer questions on this forum while still living a life and doing things I need to do. My daughter was coughing up blood and vomit, so I had to deal with that. Once she was settled, I returned here eventually and clicked on whatever the newest message mentioning me was, and I replied to it. Then, yesterday I did some goofy Twitch show from 7-8, and I went out for dinner with some friends. I occasionally posted there from my phone.

I do not understand how you can interpret this as I "don't care," since I'm posting here and I've already answered a lot of questions and written a lot of wordswordswords. I never said or inferred I "don't care" about this place, because if I didn't care, I obviously wouldn't be here. But you have to understand I also live in the real world where I occasionally cannot answer all questions immediately. Can you clarify your complaint for me, because I'm really not getting it.

The thing is, all these people from "the good old days" have grown older, gotten jobs, families, responsibilities, etc etc. It's increasingly difficult to spend most of the day putting effort into content for us idiots who have been around since 99. People join the forums and then move on. Obviously SA isn't anywhere near as popular as Twitch, Youtube, reddit, Twitter, and like 100,000,000 other sites, so if members are interested in growing their fanbase, they start on SA, get a small but loyal following, and then move on to bigger social media platforms. I can't imagine popular folks raking in the cash like Yahtzee or that guy British guy with the hat icon coming back to SA because it's a tiny market share compared to where they are at. People just move on.

True, but I've seen the Ripper retsupurae you did with Slowbeef and that was pretty good, and Fragmaster made a cameo on Gaming Garbage back in the day. The "greats" have moved on, but it still seems like everyone is at least somewhat in touch, at least for the purposes of doing one-off special appearances once in a while. I guess they wouldn't need to be there 24/7, but the occasional check in would be neat.

Though people have moved on, you did mention that there are tons of people who got their start on SA before going further elsewhere. If SA has consistently been able to nurture tomorrow's best talent why not own that angle? Make SA as a sort of Internet SNL where people get their start before potentially moving into the big leagues?

Maybe it's sappy of me in my own older age, but I still believe in Something Awful. :)

Ahaha, not intentional but I see what you did there.

It seems like a pretty easy band-aid would be to make a forum for alt right spergs, another for sjw cat ladies, maybe add some subforums for relevant topics to both, have mods with respective ideologies moderate them to make sure there isn't cross-contamination, have admins keep the cancer from spreading to other forums and generally let anything go in the other forums so long as it's on topic for the forum at hand and doesn't break any particularly egregious/nsfw rules (no pirated shit, no porn, no doxing, whatever).

The idea that people in a car forum should worry about getting yelled at for using the wrong pronouns when someone pops in to ask about the weird noise their engine is making or that someone in the pet forum is problematic for assigning their dog a gender is what most people mean when they say SA has become a social justice hugbox; it's not just ex-goons mad because Ozma fat or whatever.

I stopped posting of my own volition when it became clear that it was no longer fun because I had to spend more time navigating a social justice minefield than laughing about dumb shit on the internet. I'm sure many others did, too.

Hey @Lowtax whatever happened with Cliff Yabaloski : Freedom Fighter or whatever it was called?

And in the interest of full disclosure, I am a permabanned pants shitting troll. You even permabanned my account yourself. The reason was something like "genritroll" or something like that.

I'm not mad though, I got my tenbux worth of entertainment and I don't wish any general or specific harm on you or your family. All I got to say is CHINK WIFE MANGOSTEEN THOUSAND DOLLAR CHAIR
