Digimon

This is probably too powerlevelly but highly unlikely anyone on WtW reads or cares about this thread so how about the weirdest experience I had with WtW's moderation, on their Discord. I posted a Gematsu article about -next 0rder-, it's immediately removed by a mod with no notification. Being a quiet deletion, I only found out who deleted it and why when shortly afterwards someone else posted the same article and also got deleted. Vande posted the message "Don't post clickbait sites", so basically she was the one who deleted my post and the other person's and it was because she thinks Gematsu is a clickbait site. Another mod told her it isn't and is a reliable site, but she didn't respond to that. I honestly was mostly just baffled that she didn't notify me about deleting my post but did with the other reposter later.

I had one or two experiences with them and what you're describing is similar to how I was treated. They're trigger happy Reddit mods, through and through. They struck me as people who don't like confrontation and so just arbitrarily make decisions on a whim without having the courtesy of due consideration or justification.

I imagine you have to surrender a ton of self-esteem to even survive in that site.

Gematsu focuses on Japanese games, right?

This might sound like it's from left field, but did you ever get the feeling there was animosity toward Japan in general? I felt there was a particular disdain for the original Japanese versions of the shows. Their translations were vastly different from the English; yet some people get outright hostile when you start pointing out the differences.

Too many rules and mods with itchy trigger fingers.

Not necessarily. Infact one guy named TMS who's a mod on the forums (not Discord though) is fairly open about how much he hates the localization.

It's that, or some weird warped form of purism. Digimon purists are always fucking nuts and they're almost always someone who had grown up with the dub. Foreign fans at least have a bile fascination for the Saban dub even if they don't like the changes at the end of the day.

I think the most asinine changes in Digimon come from the Arabic dub, which are generally known about:

-Every character, be it human or Digimon, has their name changed to an Arabic one. i.e. Taichi is Amjad, Takuya is Osama, Ryo is Samer, Veemon is the Arabic word for "blue", Garudamon is "bird of prey", etc.
-Digimon don't evolve. They summon their "older brothers" to fight for them.
-Culumon's forehead is removed for looking like a Star of David.
-Izumi's stomach wasn't allowed either. The OP cuts out every frame where she can be seen, but the show itself just colored her exposed stomach in with black. These kind of paint jobs on female characters' outfits are the norm for Spacetoon who handled these Arabic anime dubs. I've seen a screenshot where for Angewomon they just blurred her instead of doing a paint job.

At least they dubbed the songs though, including the evolution and insert themes in Tamers and Frontier. Though while I couldn't find it, I distinctly remember seeing a clip where they had Tomoki's insert theme playing during the scene of Kouichi falling, lmao. That had to have been a mistake.

Only other thing I remember is someone overreacting to the part in the 1999 movie where Mr. Yagami comes home, buzzed from the bar, and tells his wife he's going to give his children goodnight kisses. As if it was creepy for a father to want to dote on his own children.
Given Japanese culture where you're expected to go out drinking with your boss and coworkers I feel this would be the exact opposite. If that's the case with Mr. Yagami the fact that when he got home his first inclination was to make sure and give his kids a kiss goodnight is entirely wholesome.

You can tell these people are all broken without kids of their own if this is where their minds go to first.

I don't remember where Airdramon linked all their podcasts. Maybe I can do some digging later on.

If I had a time machine I’d go back and make sure Adventures 2 never happened. It was absolute garbage and only trannies like it.

The Digimon Kaiser stuff had potential. Ken was pretty badass. Dark Takeru should have shown up more often too.

Show really took a nosedive after the whole Kaiser arc finished and Ken became a crybaby. Knock-off Team Rocket didn't help supplement for an evil Chosen Child.

BWG destroying MacGuffins couldn't save it. Monster of the week World Tour arc couldn't save it. One-off Demon Corps. with scantily-clad Lady Devimon couldn't save it. Resurrected Vamdemon couldn't save it.

There's a slough of issues that plagued the show, not to mention introducing new characters despite the alreasdy existing cast. And that diabetes-inducing epilogue tripe where they all get married and procure their dream jobs.

Also in Adventure during the soccer flashback it's not Sora but her Brother, Samir.

That was the original Adventure ending, regardless of if 02 happened.

The original just ended with the kids riding the tram back into the real world while their partners saw them off.
No, I mean the original planned ending was an Adult Takeru narrating the events, with everyone getting a Digimon. They just decided to postpone it once they decided to make a sequel and save it for them. But that ending wad always planned, with Yamato ending up with Sora even back then.

Oh, then yes, I see what you mean.

I know it's what they intended, but the problem is they hadnt really done due diligence in justifying it. Yamato becoming an astronaut is the most blatant example of just how surreal the entire thing was.

The epilogue is extremely ideal and wish fulfilly. None of what happened throughout either show necessarily indicated events were even leading up to the epilogue. It's like a Hallmark film ending with some Digimon partners in the background.

I get how the endings for each child compliment the lessons they learned along the way but that's part of the problem. It's ideal.

The Sora/Yamato ship was awkward and really the only real moment they had in 01 was Yamato talking her out of the cave situation. Otherwise, 02 just kinda spring the ship on us in Episode 38.

As far as I’m concerned 02 never happened and neither did the new movies. It’s like watching Naruto filler but as an entire series. 02 was neat in theory but the execution was just horrible. And the writers knew this. Which is why the 02 crew didn’t exist for most of the new movies. I mean just look at Yolie. Look at her. What the fuck is she even wearing?!

There's apparently an interview with the VAs of Yamato and Gabumon who expressed they were surprised Sora married him and not Taichi. Kakudou clearly wanted to subvert expectations of the hero/leader getting the girl, the problem was he didn't communicate it to anyone. That's why Our War Game had Taichi and Sora having a fight and giving hints he might've been crushing on her, and perhaps she too reciprocated those feelings. Mamoru didn't know they weren't even considered to be an item because no one told him.

And of course, there was like no communication between the writers and director(s) in the second season, hence why there were so many plot-points introduced only to get dropped or unrealized. It's quite possible the epilogue was literally slapped together because they didn't exactly know how to end the series once MaloMyotismon got literally wished to death.

The epilogue is a bit more well thought out that I first considered. That's part of my issue with it, ironically enough. It's way too perfect.

The way I've seen it argued, each profession the children become is supposed thematic end of their character arcs, but that's really only true for a few like Taichi, Ken, and Iori.
