Valve introduces Steam Deck

I've had the OLED for a few days. Screen is nice but I'm not sure my dumb ape brain can really tell the difference. Honestly, what I like most is the increased storage capacity. I had the 512gb with a 1tb SD card and upgraded to the 1tb OLED. Before I was constantly deleting and redownloading games, now I dont.

Nice, glad to hear you got yours in a timely manner and yeah,,I went to the steam deck reddit for the first time earlier this week and it's one giant circlejerk of poeple talking about how amazing the screen is but you can't tell because they can't take a picture to save their fucking life and copy-pasted old ass memes that were never funny. I ordered the 1tb LE with the dock that comes in on Monday, plus didn't know about the screen difference between a 512gb and 1tb so that's interesting.
I think the 1tb screen is better unless you constantly play in the dark. Adding a screen protector on top of the screen has many implications, it's hard to tell too until you install it yourself. Too many no-name companies putting out bad products. You need keep in mind that this is a 800p screen. A lot of OLED benefits are slightly nicer colors, reduced input lag, and not having these horrible borders when playing content that doesn't use the full screen.

Steam Deck reddit is insufferable. Glancing over, dudes taking pictures of their deck trying to be inspirational. One of them is in the hospital. Last I checked before, tons of posts trying to divine etched versus glossy in the most autistic ways. As you said, none of them can take pictures for shit. I saw a few posts of people jerking off about how the steam deck changed their lives.

I don't know why people are like this.

Are you trying to suggest that there's a difference?

You need to buy the right kind

I checked it out and most of the posts with any response are just comparing the etched to non-etched screens or saying they got a subpar product because their screen isn't the Samsung one but the Chinese company (Apple uses the same two manufacturers for their iPhones iirc). Or misery posting about how they're mad the OLED makes their LCD Deck useless. This is the saddest form of consumerism. The entire self worth is dictated on the screen on a 2021 GameGear and how they were robbed by getting an etched on on the LE.

Steam Deck fixed my erectile dysfunction, got me a successful high paying job, and and now I'm swimming in bitches and retirement options.

Thanks Gabe!
Part of it is social conditioning and astroturfing. You get some message or social programming like "race mixing" or "gay marriage" and now you need to figure out a way to spam and promote it in every area of public life. So you make every single commercial on television filled with niggers, race mixed children, and fag couples. And every television show or movie has its token representation. But how do you get that garbage into social media for everyone to see?

The answer is more astroturfing. You get someone to post "my fag boyfriend loves his new Steam Deck" and the bots upvote it and now the number one posts on the Steam Deck reddit are ones that feature a race mixed couple or two fags taking pictures with the Steam Deck. Or taking pictures with a new PS5, or at a baseball game, or concert. It's just social conditioning and one of the many degenerate aspects of social media. So that every single topic and photo about anything on social media is 80% a fag or nigger and 20% the actual product or topic.

Where legitimate questions and concerns about a product like the Steam Deck are buried behind an avalanche of posts of bots and shills showing using the Steam Deck to promote something that is completely off topic and worthless. In order to find out the technical parts of the Steam Deck you need to wade through a sea of "The Steam Deck got me through my last suicide attempt" posts or whatever stupid shit is being promoted.

It is now imploding because of a tranny getting their tits chopped off's thread got deleted and everyone is shrieking about transphobia.

I just got mine and it's an improvement in pretty much every single way, except... The dpad. I'm no hardware expert, but it just feels... Mushy? And not good to use. It actually hurts my thumb after using it for awhile, which is a big problem because I lot of retro and 2d games, and prefer to use the dpad over the analog sticks.

I never had this problem with my original Deck, so I dunno what changed. It wasn't perfect, but i thought it was completely useable and had no problems with it. Just gonna cross my fingers and hope it needs to be broken in with a week or two of use.

I'm just assuming, but that's probably an easy thing to swap out, isn't it? Supposedly it's easier to open the OLED systems too.

It is a mushy directional pad. I would not say it's top tier, but it's good. It's comparable to the SNES and I haven't had much issue with it. I saw some retro youtuber being annoyed by it because he was trying to play fighting games.

It has a minor improvement over the original deck's dpad. Maybe yours has an issue, it shouldn't be that different.

Since I looked for some Steam Deck info on YouTube. I had a few channels recommended to me, some of which have made multiple Steam Deck videos.

The worst one has to be Fan The Deck. It has all the worst aspects of current year YouTube. This is a channel dedicated in its entirety to jerking off the Steam Deck.

Sincerely, I do not understand why people are like this, or if this is some advanced psyop.

The great majority of the D pads you see in the wild are membrane, and they feel like that unless you specifically find one that has the kinda mechanic version, i have see some chinese companies selling the mechanical versions but never picked my interest

The only one i think that has a D pad and Sticks that dont suck is the Lenovo GO that come with hall effects from factory but only the sticks i dont know about the d pad

Brand slaves, they are probably going to die very fast when VALVE just dont update the hardware in like 5 years or so, still dont know why they said that there is no tech to upgrade the Steam deck when the absolute big ass scene of third party upgrades, in my uneducated opinion they were probably sidelined by AMD when they released the Z1 just for the Ally

If I use a guide its typically a written one but the video guides I've used are ohnoitsalex's guides https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLMVW9kBhJJjI3PuvRcDaWuVWQcfA5Phwz
He has run through most the emulator as a clean install but if you run emudeck it pretty much can install the whole suite in one go. He also has started doing a steam deck section on all his PC port reviews so it gives you a heads up on any new big releases ability to run on steam deck.

There's probably some better guides out there if you look hard enough. Emudeckand decky loader are the two big things I've put on. Decky loader just to run decky recorder so I can do screen capture in game mode. As for individual game modding I look up written guides typically.

My guess is going to be cost, engineering, or a combination of the two. They didn't say there was no tech, but rather that there's no tech on the market that satisfies what they want to do at the moment.

A frequent complaint with the original deck was the battery life. The Ally chugs like a motherfucker when run at its maximum capacity, it lasts even less long than the original deck, including the extreme version. All that for a marginal improvement to framerate in a bunch of games.

Better for Valve to swap the display for an OLED, increase the battery, improving efficiency and make minor changes to a bunch of components. Still in a similar price point to the Ally. Given the 6nm process, I don't think they got sidelined by AMD. Another consideration I thought of, is that this move allows them to still sell the LCD model. The LCD model isn't destitute and is sold at an incredibly competitive price. I don't think anybody in the market can compete with Valve at $399. This is chink handheld price territory, the Ayn Odin 2 was sold for $299.

After the debacle with PC gaming enthusiasts 6 months ago, ASUS isn't a trustworthy manufacturer. Valve at this point has a track record of supporting this hardware. That isn't to say that Valve has no issues. The LE version of the deck seems to have frequent problems including bad oled panels.

I already set up emudeck. I was surprised at how smooth the process went.

This was my ultimate conclusion as well when looked at rationally. I wanted to wait for the Lenovo Legion Go before investing in this new crop of more refined portable PC gaming platforms and in the end the Steam Deck ticks most of my boxes. In addition to the really competitive entry price of just $350 USD, the refined OS that's not Windoze really makes the Deck a compelling package. I'm sure Linux can be used with varying degrees of usability on the Ally and Go, but for an out of the box Linux gaming experience, the Deck just plain wins.

I didn't care for the steam deck since it was announced, but the OLED screen pushed me over the edge. Got the 512gb oled. LCD annoys me anymore, the grey light up blacks drive me nuts. The track pads are the star of the show with this thing, they make using a computer in a tablet form factor pretty nice. My only complaint is that the pop up keyboard is way too big. All the games I've tried so far run pretty good and the emulation is pretty great. I'd say it's well worth the price and has a lot of utility beyond just playing games.

I had my doubts about the resolution, but it being lower really does serve good purpose and it's not really that annoying at all. My phone has a 1440p screen which is nice for text, but for video, you gotta shove that shit right up to your face to really tell a difference.

As for the reddit fags posting shit pics, it's not like you're gonna tell the difference on your shitty computer monitor anyway, so what's the point. Congrats, you spent money.
