Based on what I have read of his other works, I'm inclined to believe he's hitting novel length. He seems really obsessed with >80k, like it's required to be a real author. It's 80% empty padding though. His novels are like ordering a small figurine from ebay and receiving a huge box full of packing peanuts.

To be COMPLETELY fair, agents and publishers usually ask for your novel to be around 80k so if your book is a loss, they already know what they're losing.

It's not actually uncommon for authors to have a lot of short works. Scott Fitzgerald, the writer of The Great Gatsby, short stories kept the lights on mostly. It really just depends on your buisness model
