While I have been following the thread, and sometimes play Elissa or Bernie clips in the background while I'm doing other things, I haven't really looked at Nick for months. He looks really bad. Unfortunately I have a lot of experience dealing with adult survivors of CSA and the hyper-sexualization, attention-seeking behavior and lack of boundaries around sex are all major red flags. Her depression and anxiety (and the crying meltdowns on stream about not being “good enough”) on their own wouldn’t make me suspect this but taken together she seems like a textbook case. Not to mention the shitty ink. “Every tattoo is a painting daddy ignored, just like my cries for help,” as one survivor once put it to me.

I also have a lot of experience dealing with same. Without exception, they've gone through extended periods of promiscuous sexual behaviour. I've never known one get married at college age and stay married for twenty years afterwards.

But the UK isn't a particularly religious country and none of the CSA survivors I've known have grown up in particularly religious subcultures -- or if they have, they've immediately rejected it as soon as they were old enough.

There’s a lot to be said for “fake it till you make it,” but genuine emotional and mental health issues are so commonplace that I find this a rather uncharitable assumption. She might not have had “living as a healthy woman” modeled for her in the first place.

I wasn't talking about living as someone with good mental health, I was talking about living as somebody who is physically healthy. In my experience often follows the latter. The more people embrace the sick role, the sicker (mentally and physically) they become.

You don't need someone to model the need to get out of bed, get washed and dressed, take your kids to school, clean the house and do the shopping. But the longer you go without doing those basic things, the harder it gets to actually do them. The more incapable of them you believe yourself to be.

I’m really calling bullshit on restless leg syndrome. It’s a controversial diagnosis (doctors say it isn’t real, probably because it’s so over diagnosed) and the people that really seem legit are experiencing borderline agony. People claiming that is a real red flag. If you go to a doctor to complain about a bunch of shit it’s very easy to leave with some prescriptions, they take you on your word and are pressured to prescribe so patients feel validated. I hate to play out tired tropes, but sounds like a unsatisfied wife that wants to escape her life but can’t admit it so is distracting herself with the medicalisation of her unhappiness.
