I think it might be both, one acting upon another in a feedback loop. Some of them are unapologetically awful and will never be redeemable, but I see some signs that there are others that do need genuine help and they don’t really have anyone that they can rely on to tell them the truth that they’re fucked in the head. They’re essentially stuck in limbo and I feel some pity for them.
