Brianna Wu / John Walker Flynt - "Biggest Victim of Gamergate," Failed Game Developer, Failed Congressional Candidate

Because I didn't find that relevant, and I really have zero interest in getting even deeper into gender shit.

Fair enough I just thought it was a bit weird you were validating his tranny identity but that makes sense

Really? Can you link me to all these gender based threads that apparently our forum is for?
Oh, well I guess you're about five or six years too late with the joke, all that gender shit has been gone for a long time.

Lol come on the three biggest and most active megathreads are the tranny one in E/N the feminism one until it got closed and the ladies talking one (almost all trannies)

I mean maybe things changed since I last checked six months ago but no need to be salty at the one guy razzing you softly while everyone else is praising your involvement in this

Geth's final post on Wu (after this, he doesn't give a shit about John anymore)

https://medium.com/@infiltrator7n/m...i-care-more-about-now-c53a8f0ebb37#.qvbyxu3q8

It's long, so here's a summary.

He jumped the gun on R60 launch day and assumed Flynt would screw people over once again, wrote an article to that effect, and wound up with egg on his face when he found out Wu actually did what he promised for once. Since he had already made another screwup that got the KIA hot pockets pissed at him, he came to the conclusion he was coming dangerously close to lolcowdom given how he fucked up and decided to quit while he still could.

He no longer plans to cover Brianna Wu again because he figures he's done enough, R60 is an amazing trainwreck he needs not comment on more than other people have done better, and after this he predicts Wu will become a bargain basement clickbait writer for a third-rate blog if he's lucky, and since Wu's credibility is a smoking crater now and forevermore, he's given up on Wu ever apologizing to him for libeling him awhile back, so he'll be content knowing John Flynt is now an eternal laughingstock, and he wants to devote the rest of his life to other shit.

Semper Fi you glorious bastard.

Huh. He really is going all out with journalism as his new "career."

It's pretty much a full circle - back to writing articles spewing his objectified opinions which is where he started in college newspapers.

"Sexy"? Sure, if you're into trannies with engorged ballsacks growing out of their skulls.

The 'Mars Attacks' Fettish strikes again.

This is the part that absolutely slays me about the R60 release.

At this point it's pretty fucking clear that the launch was a financial disaster of proportions I didn't even think were possible. OK, R60 was always dreadful, and people were always going to be unhappy with it, but Brianna's decision to spend more than two years monkeying with the lighting just absolutely killed any chance of them making a cent from the game. Maria had the port done in January of '15 when Brianna was still enjoying her 15 minutes of fame. If they'd just released the thing, the Kotaku/Polygon/Paste axis would have been all over this shit. They'd get so many sympathy bucks from men with money and white guilt.

Ironically it was Brianna's urge to make more acceptable to the virtue signalling crowd that ultimately doomed it.

Ozma tried to eat all the trannys then died because she choked to death. RiP SA tranny overlord and rip GamerGate Seth Rogan who died like Michael brown

The best part is the timing, really. WoW Legion and Deus Ex hit the field? Better get that Bratz pack shovelware out the door finally.

We're irrelevant and unpopular and dying and unfunny basically. I don't want to get offtopic here, so let's get back to the discussion at hand.

For everyone posting about this article.

Please check the date

It's from 2014, the initial release. Not that it justifies it, but don't forget that's when it got the game of the year bullshit as well.

>Psychologically, people love talking about themselves. IDK, I don't stress it.

You'd fucking know, wouldn't you.

"I have an unfortunate history with Ethan Ralph"
"I had pictures of my house, my car and even my pets’ names published by Gamergate on Medium"
"my husband and I were forced to move"
"While I was invited to be a guest of honor at Ravencon this year"
"I commented on Ralph’s arrest today on Twitter"
"Wrote about the prominent Gamergate leader that was arrested and charged with two felonies for @dailydot. Please RT"

And asking questions about someone you want to get to know for whatever reason is "reporter mode"? I'd call that making conversation like a normal human being that functions normally in real life.

There's the rub, though:

John has no normal way of interacting socially. He has three casual settings, and by casual I mean separate from his "Lie until it hurts" mode from "professional" interviews and interactions.

1. Bragging on himself or his "knowledge".

2. Mocking his "friends"; this includes Frank obviously.

3. Virtue signalling.

That's IT. If you listen to Rocket or Isometric, not that you'd want to, John is insufferable. Just an example: He goes on for 5 minutes about how one of his co-hosts, when trying to text John with one of his made-up girly baby words, "crack-a-lackin'", had her phone autocorrect the gobbledygook into "crack slacking". 'Kay? That's neither funny, nor worthy of focus, but the point is that JOhn brings this up in his podcast, audibly giggling to himself, because (like many autists) he has awful difficulty with social interaction. That's why these podcasts function as a game of "Let John Brag" or "Pacify John by laughing at his "jokes"."

"Reporter mode" is John's over-aggressive interrogation, which he thinks makes him sound smart. But it doesn't, really.

It just makes him sound like an asshole.

Let's not forget Zoe's "No thanks" from the CON logs, in response to a suggestion re: working with Wu to generate victim bux. NOBODY can stand John: they may have the tact to not state it outright, but even the staid and patient uber-troon Katherine Cross exhausted the limits of patience with John.

This is why John has no social life. Have you noticed? Twitter, Blue Apron, movie with Frank on friday release, because he's convinced himself (wasn't hard, I imagine) that his hot takes on new nerd movies are original and expected. But never, ever, EVER does John get coffee with a friend, go over to a friend's house to watch a film, go to a concert with a group of friends, etc.

Isn't that a bit odd, considering the range of his "influence" and the number of Twits he has following?

Ah, that's where the truth will out: Not even John's own ilk can stand him in person. Nothing profound, but needs restating, especially when he gets up on his high horse.

Okay, @Jaimas has spent innumerable hours working on the BWu article, which has paid off. The Lolcow Wiki article is just shy of being as long as Wikipedia's main article on Adolf Hitler, and it's the FOURTH most prominent neutral google result for her name, above fucking brietbart and just below her own personal website. That to me is absolutely staggering.

But I think Jaimas needs some help, especially with 1) structure, 2) reduction of fluff, 3) neutrality of tone. I'll give you an example. I've cleaned up the very first paragraph of the article as an example.

I did the following.

1. Tried to hit as many points as possible to give people an understanding of who this person is without fine tooth combing it. To me, the most significant element is not that Brianna Wu tweets a lot, it's that she involves herself in drama. The best example of that IMO is how she wrangled a cripple into the national spotlight to accuse him for being some sort of cyber terrorist. That's pretty fucking amazing.

2. Reduced fluff. Every word serves a purpose. There's a lot of purely editorial issues, probably because Jaimas writes so much information that he doesn't really have time to properly spruce up text. The best example of this in what I've given is the "by-all-accounts". Not only does that phrase mean literally nothing from an objective standpoint, it appears twice in consecutive sentences (which is poor writing), and it's also inconsistent. The first instance is hyphenated, the second is not.

3. I tried to remove bias as much as possible. Lolcow Wiki should be fairly neutral. Sarcasm quotes, direct insults, etc all betray the trust of the reader. No one doing a casual google search for Brianna Wu who finds this article is going to read past the first paragraph or even skim through the rest of the article because they're going to assume it's written by someone with a grudge. If you really want to harm someone with a LCW article, you do it by being honest, straightforward, and sincere. It's an encyclopedia of failures, not ED.

But furthermore the rest of the summary area is preposterously gargantuan.

Adolf Hitler: http://i.imgur.com/Ql6fcvi.png
Brianna Wu: http://i.imgur.com/mqlSGVp.png

Literally, the introductory area for Adolf Hitler is smaller than Wu's. I know for a fucking fact that Wu is not as accomplished as Mein Furhrer and I find this insulting. A summary should be just that: a summary. "Wu did this, and this, and this." It should be 3, 4 paragraphs tops for someone like Brianna Wu.

And finally, please, turn all the [[pipelining|sentences which are entirely contained within pipelines to citations]]. When your comment is a link to something else on the wiki, that isn't a link. A link is saying [[Adolf Hitler|Chancellor of Germany during World War II]] -- you're linking to something. When you are citing an entire stated fact, you want to use proper references.

I mean honestly, there's tons of interest in this thread right now and in BWu right now because of the game. There's a ton of information in that article but that's the problem. It reads like a brick and Jaimas really enjoys garnish and superfluous in writing -- which works great for a forum post or short story, not so much for an encyclopedia.

Couldn't agree more with this sentiment, a lot of writing about lolcows tries too hard to hard to shame the individuals from a subjective standpoint rather than producing facts and allowing the reader to draw their own conclusions based on it. For somebody like Wu, sunlight is the best disinfectant - the truth is more damning than any conjecture. I'll look over the article and possibly make my own edits when I have time.

If you do this, keep in mind I feel the most critical part of fixing the article is organizing it. Jaimas has a lot he wants to say at all times and never fails to take an opportunity to add more detail or information. Sometimes things just have to be left unsaid and saved for a more pertinent part of the article.

I finally caught up, again. I'd like to say, mostly because no one mentioned it as far I was able to tell, that a big reason why Rev60's launch was such a failure was because Wu did nothing to advertise or even acknowledge it, other than a screencap saying that Valve approved the game. It was ignored to the point where everyone thought it was another bluff.

Ryulong, where art thou?

I just couldn't have been more wrong about this. I was convinced the game was buggered beyond fixing. I couldn't think of any other reason he'd act the way he did, delaying it for two years, refusing to discuss it, dismissing questions. I am absolutely stunned at the outcome. His behavior still makes no sense to me.

Now, I know what you're thinking: who the hell are you, anyway?

Sorry, bad phrasing. I shouldn't have called it "the biggest reason". Edited the response for that.

Still, even competently made games that were on schedule will have a stillborn release if there's no advertising.
