Edited to add this: the rent could be more because I’d guess they would qualify for a subsidy where the government pays a portion of the rent. That’s just how much Sally has to come up with. Ed was originally brought in as a roommate to help with rent ( so the story was told by Chance) so it’s quite possible it was higher before Sally was hit by the vehicle that led to her being unable to work any longer.

So, the backstory for Sally and Ed, from Sally's daughter Lynn, is that Sally had a crush on him. They met through friends, and the daughter says he has an apartment of his own somewhere. They are a totally normal relationship, somehow.
I think he just stays there all the time now to keep Sally safe, either from trolls or Raxx.

I think the reason he's latched onto that with such ferocity over the years is because it's partly his way of showing all the ladies that he's 100% heterosexual, he would never ever EVER suck a dick. Even though he raped Billy and later said they were just "experimenting". And partly it's to assure himself that he's not a horrible little goblin and that someone out there actually does find him sexually attractive.
