I think its interesting to note he claims the Ellison Future cop case is the most recent case of a writer winning a plagiarism suit when 4 years later Ellison would successfully settle James Cameron out of court after claiming The Terminator was a rip off of his Outer Limits episode "Soldier" . He either did this because A). it was settled out of court and therefore didn't count for his weirdly specific criteria and B). frankly Ellison was in the wrong in this case and greatly overstepping the bounds of what counts as plagiarism. Beyond the idea of both stories featuring two fighting men in the future being sent back in time to continue the fight the characters, plot, set pieces, dialog, and action are all completely different.

So much of Internet content is these lazy shithead aggregators that just take other people's pictures, videos, articles, and social media posts, then just reposting them. Almost always, the context is neutered and the identities scrubbed. Half the time they even remove dates, so you can't notice the thing you're supposed to be angry at happened literally 10 years ago.

YouTube, TikTok, Facebook, and Xitter are all competitors competing for attention. It really doesn't benefit them to be proactive about large channels on their platforms wholesale stealing people's shit. A considerable amount of money changing hands from Facebook Ads to "meme channels" is literally just for going to YouTube, downloading a video, and reuploading it to a new audience (existing, in legal terms, in the same reserved market).

And as someone who doesn't like copyright as a concept I still find this aggravating because of how far out of the way these people go to make sure you CANNOT FIND the original source, even when you want to. I agree with hbomberguy that this is a symptom of guilt. These people know what they're doing is wrong and instead of not doing it they just choose to cover their tracks better.

Even xQc, who people point and gawk at as being the king of copyright theft, does not infringe as much as these people do. He is playing videos with source information on screen from the perspective of an average viewer. If he watches something you think is funny, you can find it on your own easily. The information and content laundering building careers across the Internet is done through deceit and people with merit, creativity, and work ethic are left behind when they don't have the built-in audience to benefit from selling to.

Anyway, haven't gotten to the IH part yet. I've been a bit disappointed in Internet Historian lately. IH should have stuck with internet stories that wouldn't be headline news by most measures, like failed conventions, and people projecting memes onto business meeting computers. The minute he started branching out and trying to do more "regular trending Youtube stories" is when I think he lost me a bit. People have been getting trapped in caves for as long as people have existed. There is a wealth of videos on the subject and the story that IH chose is a particularly well-documented one. I've stumbled down the Youtube rabbit hole multiple times to watch videos of cave spelunking gone wrong, cave diver incidents etc. It's topics like this and boats capsizing that I'm not sure I ever watched his channel for.

I agree with this. IH used to be one of my favorite Youtubers, and I even liked the Fyre Fest and Costa Concordia videos, but since then, I haven't really been interested in anything he's put out.
