Thieves targeting Canada Goose jackets
Bundling up could put you at risk of theft this winter.

WASHINGTON - "It is something I have to think about, just putting my jacket on," American University student Meera Hajarnis said. That’s because she was wearing a Canada Goose jacket, which has become a target for thieves.

"I know [George Washington University], Georgetown, same issue where a lot of people are just stealing these jackets out of locker rooms, classrooms," Hajarnis said.

In at least one instance, they’re stealing them at gunpoint too.

Police said three suspects hopped out of a car, pointed guns, and demanded a victim’s Canada Goose jacket just a few blocks from Dupont Circle on Tuesday night.

It has happened in the area before. Last winter, George Washington University sent out an alert about a string of jacket robberies near the school’s Foggy Bottom campus. At the time, police said they weren’t sure why the thefts were happening, but one thing that is known – the jackets aren’t cheap, with some costing upwards of $1,500.

Canada Goose jacket thefts near GWU campus
Thieves in D.C. are targeting Canada Goose jackets. So much so, George Washington University sent out a campus alert this week telling students to be careful.

Thursday, FOX 5 asked D.C. police if they had any advice.

"AirTags," said Commander Sylvan Altieri. "I’ve seen people use them on tool kits, suitcases, I think that’s probably the best thing you can do as far as if it gets taken, because it’s a nice way to track it."

"It’s a really scary situation, especially over just a jacket," said Hajarnis, but she added, she doesn’t plan on getting a new jacket anytime soon. "I love the jacket. So I’m really happy with it, and I hope it never gets stolen."

In the Tuesday night incident, police said the victim gave up his jacket, and the thieves got away.

if you go around wearing expensive clothing in the more diverse areas then you will occasionally get robbed.

Cannibal war criminals in Africa at least stole expensive cars, weapons, slaves, military uniforms and cool Halloween costumes. American niggers steal faggy gocci shit.

I thought this happened years ago to the point that npc whitoids knew this brand would bring them danger and actually stopped? Maybe I just made that up in my mind or something because the likelihood of them learning vs not has usually been pretty predictable.

Were they wearing this brand in the first place because blackerinos?

I remember when goose down was the best fill .. 30 years ago.
Now we have space-aged materials and mypillows that never flatten.
My current jacket is just as warm as down jackets were back then, except it's half the bulk and doesn't poke me with fucking feather shafts.

the jackets aren’t cheap, with some costing upwards of $1,500.

WTAF.
Who is paying that much for ANY coat.
I can get top-line wool car coats for 5% of that cost. (the type of coat Trump wears in winter)

You will be amazed at how much America's so-called best and brightest will shill out an entire paycheck to have the appropriate sticker on their coat.

Canadian government have been handing out high end parkas to immigrants for forever now. I wouldn't be surprised if the American government was doing it too.

I can see why thieves find this a lucrative business. Next week the very same person they robbed gets a brand new designer jacket, so they can rob them again. Neither the thief or the robbed lose out.

The solution to end this wave of thefts is simple - buy one of these jackets. Then sew a few pounds of C4 into the lining, linked to a small remote detonator and a speaker with a recording of a jihadist screaming allahu akbar. Then walk around and wait to get the jacket stolen. When it gets stolen wait until the thief gets a few hundred feet away and then use the remote detonator. Thief blows up to the sound of allahu akbar and anyone involved in the theft ring gets assumed to be jihadi terrorists so the feds get rid of them. Well that or the news starts running with hit pieces against canadian geese claiming the goose population in canada converted to islam and declared a jihad against the US, based on seeing piles of feathers in the aftermath of the explosion and using the usual amount of journo intelligence to piece the story together. On the plus side the government would then go after all the geese in the country and the price of christmas dinners would drop like a rock. Roast goose for everyone

Just like that, no more jacket thefts and cheap christmas dinners for everyone

You can stay warm without a $400 designer parka.

Shocking, I know.
During the tours in Korea was issued a parka, but like everyone else also went downtown and had a parka made to order. Not expensive, and warm. Lasted me for years after returning from the last tour.

If you spend $400 on a parka you have more money than common sense. If you go around unarmed in DC wearing such a parka you have no common sense at all.

I have an M65 with a liner that works pretty good unless its actually cold, which kinda sucks because it actually gets cold here on occasion. I just wish somebody would make an M65 shell in GoreTex, as the OG canvas coat is heavy as fuck and doesn't stop wind worth a fuck unless they're waxxed, which makes it even heavier.

In Korea, least at that time we were issued long johns and a parka. Never wore the long johns but certainly wore the parka. One also rode as much on buses and in taxis as possible. That wind came right out of Siberia. Sometimes it felt like the wind was blowing through you, rather than around you.

The winters in Korea were the worst I ever experienced. Winters in Texas were no big deal by comparison, the winters in Maryland tolerable by comparison. Where I live now there is no winter as most know it, just a long spring that segues into a long fall. Things grow here all year long, wear cargo shorts all year long. Hit 70 today, got the door open. Even in the chilliest weather a light jacket/windbreaker is enough.
