In the mind of a brilliant software engineer like Brianna Wu, old electronics hardware that still has practical applications is the exact same as an email service that she doesn't prefer.
Of course it's not about whether cabled audio is old and obsolete or not. For Apple, it's all about control.
People were using the audio jack as a crude serial port, and making unlicensed 3rd party accessories. They can't police who uses the audio APIs, but they can just take away the port.
People who want to work with the iPhone need to pay Apple, that's the policy. No exceptions. Wu doesn't understand this, or at least pretends not to because she's a hopeless fanboy.
