Around 3:25:00 Harris basically says he is going to give the money his video makes to all the people Somerton stole from. But then, he mentions the one conservative person who was never actually stolen from so, just as a jab to conservatives, he basically says he doesn't owe that guy anything. This undercuts everything he spent the last three hours building up.

Harris is just taking opportune shots at political ideologues he doesn't like while simultaneously making a video that is supposed to be about plagiarism. See what he's doing here? He's trying to get your brain to align itself with bad behavior = bad (i.e., conservative) political ideology.

The guy wants to be concise, but pisses almost a full hour away on nothing just so he can dunk on IH while saying "republican bad."

And then after he has made his dunk, he quickly segues into something else, just so your brain can't think about it for too long. Right after talking about Somerton, he talks about some other content creator nobody has ever heard of, but says, "I like this guy because he talks about things that I like."

Harris undercuts himself by "joking" about Hasan not being in his chair, showing an immense bias for people he likes. Then, he constantly pegs right-wingers, further undercutting whatever his "message" is and is all designed just to get people to associate plagiarism with people Harris dislikes.

I feel like there is a clear difference between a meme image to a heavily researched/edited piece of historical writing published with a financial incentive. Even though I doubt it would ever hold up in a court or be worthwhile to litigate in the first place, there could potentially be an argument made. I think it's a bit silly to compare something intended to be shared and reposted for free to a professionally released article that the author or website is hoping to receive some form of revenue from.

The funniest part about this IMO is that HBomberGuy commits repeated copyright violations across his video. He is creating a commercial product, and he is repeatedly using other people's intellectual property without paying a license. Not even just from the YouTuber's he's referencing, but 3rd party material like clips from The Wizard of OZ and Avatar the Last Airbender.

"But he's using them in fair use" No he isn't. Some of his clips may be in fair use, but 'fair use' requires directly critiquing the work, and using it in a transformative manner. I jumped to a random part of the video (~2;47:10) to find an example. Literally, first place I landed. He uses an example of a woman named 'Becky' who was cancelled for writing gay characters as a straight woman - and to show her distress, he plays a clip of her looking distressed during an interview.

He doesn't own that clip. He didn't get a license of that interview. He didn't need to use that specific video to depict her being distraught. He committed copyright theft. He stole from the person who did the leg work to film that video, and then he used it without their permission and left it in uncredited. If the copyright owner of that video took him to court today and said "your honor, this man stole my video", he would win.

I'm not making this comment to say I'm a massive fucking dweeb and I love the US Copyright System. I am saying to not hold others to standards you yourself would not stand up to.

The entire section on Somerton is kind of hard to watch, having to listen to plagiarized queer theory recited by a mendacious faggot gave me a headache. The hbomberguy video must have severely rustled Somerton's jimmies since the mendacious faggot deleted his Twitter, his Patreon and disabled comments on his Youtube content. I really don't like hbomberrguy but this outcome was worth amazing.

They essentially call him out on not calling out Hasan Piker and sucking up to him. I somewhat doubt that Harris will ever acknowledge this as he never acknowledges criticism publicly. You can see it with Mauler's videos where he showed DMs with Harris where he acknowledged that he pointed out issues with the original video. Never mentioned those on his channel though.
