What's interesting about Nick's theology is that there is no church with a doctrine encompassing all his beliefs, so he must (at least in part) see himself as the arbiter of truth. I don't think he cares nearly enough about religion to pursue this to its radical conclusion (that he is a prophet) but it is interesting that he doesn't accept institutional authority despite literally attending church and teaching religious classes. I see him in the same vein as apathetic agnostics, he probably has vague ideas about higher power and existence but when he tries to articulate them they quickly become a projection of his personal life.
