Given I've followed this dumbass off and on for a better part of 8 years, I ask this much like many of these "culture" and political type youtubers, what is the exit plan? I ask this because unlike an actor or some other political pundit, there isn't any way to fall back towards other types of content once your star fades and given most are addicted to attention, I don't know if they're aware that their star can fade.

the answer is they don't. they rely on perpetual growth and assume that the growth will continue forever. they only exist in a current state of being and assume that what's happening now, will happen forever. metaphorically speaking, bomberman is setting his neighbors' land on fire while protecting his own with a fire trail, only to realize that the insuring inferno from his neighbors are large enough to cover the gap and set his vegetation aflame. The resulting fires on his property are too big to stop from all the fuel from his neighbors, and everything he's worked for burns down with no hope of recovery. inevitably, something will be discovered about him that will make him completely irredeemable to the internet, then it will destroy any chance that he will ever make any kind of money legally ever again. then he'll blame on it on this site that he definitely doesn't use for any kind of research into the people he talks about.

that being said, minus the internet historian audience comments, the occasional thing where he spends a couple paragraphs telling you something that could be told in a single sentence, and the random fucking political bits that he slams into the video to constantly reassure himself that he's on the right side of history and anything dirty he does will be better for the greater good, i liked the video.

The problem with this idea of somehow ruining Harris with stuff he did a decade ago, is that he's established a long term precedent with his audience not to hold those kinds of things against people. The only exception being if they demonstrated they have not changed.

Harris has also been pretty clear that he himself was once a terrible person in all of this. There's a metric ton of plausible deniability on his side to keep him safe.

This even goes with the supposed SA apologism as its gone on record that a lot of the circulated screenshots were not only altered, but Hbomb has long since distanced himself the perpetrator, admitted he handled the situation poorly, and the victim personally requested him not to talk about the issue. Apparently people pop onto his discord server quite regularly asking about it, so its not some taboo topic.

Whether or not any of this is malicious manipulation to cover his bases or being a genuine individual is for you to decide, but I have strong doubts anything from his past will affect him. It will have to be something he done recently, now, or in the future if you want to go after him.

If I thought this old lets play could destroy Hbomb I would have tried to get it out there when he was trying to mutilate children through "charity" with mermaids. Even if you could get this in front of every one of those people praising him for his plagiarism video, they would pull out some astounding mental gymnastics to cover for their breadtube golden boy. Hbomb's time in the spotlight will end, either with a bang or a whimper like it always does for these people. (BTW I just had that old Two World's LP backed up on my computer just because I genuinely liked it back in the day.)

I skipped straight to the part about James Somerton because I don't care about any of this shit and I merely wish to delight in some social justice cow in-fighting. Because that's how much I hate myself. Wasn't in the least bit surprise Harris had to preface his criticism of the former by telling us he swings both ways.

James Somerton is a genuinely sociopathic, remorseless manchild who sees the world around him as existing merely to serve his own ends and needs. To what extent Peter Pan syndrome plays a role in all this is anyone's guess, but he's a great case study in the phenomenon to those who find credence in it. The way he flips out when he doesn't get his way is remarkably similar to the way a toddler throwing a tantrum might start shouting MINE! MINE! when they don't get their toy (though in this case, he would rather opt for catty internet remarks and snide asides, as is customary to his people).

Speaking of his inherent characteristics, one of the few points I agreed with Hbomberguy on was about the fact that this creep is a business type and, as such, doesn't give a flying fuck about creators and their rights, seeing them merely as a means by which to line his pockets. I would go a step further, and blame his Canadian heritage on the blatantly nepotistic nature of Somerton. For some reason Canadian business graduates and Polytechnique alumni make American managers and business types looks like goddamn philanthropists (I have some personal experience with said types). I wasn't in the least bit surprised to learn that our dear Jameth here is a canuck, for these reasons. Now imagine if he was French-Canadian!

I haven't even finished the damn video because I have too much shit to get done. Whoever the fuck said they can't wait for this genre of 10-hour-long video essays to die out was on the money, it's insufferable as all hell.

And not even the better Pink Floyd albums but that Final Cut one right before Roger Waters left where he completely crawled up his own ass with the liberal political allegory. Though the main early thing I had in mind when writing that post was The Cannibal by John Hawkes, which was published in 1949 and is about Germany before and after the wars. Night Journey (1950) by Albert Guerard (a WWII US army psyops guy) is a similarly interesting example though that's more about a semi-fictionalized Vichy France from what I recall.

According to the interview, the topic for the video had been at the back of his mind for several years since his exhange with Luke Stephens.

Another note, the length of the video was a result of him deciding to go hog wild in a "fuck it, lets jam" manner due to the reception of his Deus Ex and Oof videos. Deus Ex's length of 3:33:33 was meant as a joke and he wanted people to hate it. When that didn't happen, he decided to let himself spiral out of control with the Oof video thinking "No one will watch this." Instead it became incredibly memetic and has poisoned internet culture forever.

He also commented on the reception of the Hasan joke.

He mentions below this he's fine with Hasan reacting to his videos (implies he's mostly fine with it if consent is involved), but has a serious issue with the people who clip react content and reupload it.
He was also uncertain about including the joke in the first place since it had become a hot button topic, so he reached out to Hasan to see if it was fine and Hasan gave the thumbs up. There's a clear personal ethical divide here, and I think Harry should probably follow his gut for integrity regardless of how his friend feels.

I get what you are saying, but the unspoken truth about WW2 is that England lost that war, even though they were on the winning side. Major cities bombed, infrastructure ruined, severe economic issues, rationing, reliance on loans from the Marshall Plan.

The empire was gone. The good ol' days were over. There was a new world order where England was now subservient to an upstart superpower.

It's not really as effective as it used to be. And, considering Harris is putting other fags in his crosshairs, it's actually hilarious this virtue signaling trashfire has arrived at the point at which it has. Nobody will mourn the loss of James Somerton. Harris is clever at times, but his smugness is too obvious and it has become nothing more than a nod to his base. Everyone else knows the game at this point in time.

My experience with these types if that they are very selective when they have to define when somebody "has changed" or not. Leaving aside who the fuck he is to arbiter if somebody did a "good or bad" change, I bet you any mean ol MAGA conservatard that said nigger 15 years ago will have that thrown by him by babyface while Keffals going on one of his faggot tirades would get a "muh lady" treatment (well, Keffals may be a bad example seeing how the fucker is spiraling again). They did not add the source on purpose (don't care if it's because they considered the source a faggot, thought they could get away with it or didn't consider it was a DMCA possible scenario) and were forced by Mental Floss to add the source, though they still preferred to transform the content but stuck with the source as a just in case.

What I don't get is that there were multiple sources cited when the video was originally uploaded, at least I'm pretty sure, because watching it made me want to pause the video and get the names of some of the articles/books to learn more about it. So ... I mean, my interpretation of that is that maybe the Mental Floss article wasn't seen as "original research" by whoever was putting the script together and that's why they were so lax about not including them. But idk.

I think the solution should be IH reuploading a third video that's just the unedited Floyd Collins original musical cast recording, pissing off everyone.

I was honestly half-expecting a big twist reveal near the end of the video that Somerton isn't even gay and that he had a secret girlfriend or something.

But I totally get why Hbomb had an axe to grind with Somerton: He's a cynical marketing major exploiting the community he's a part of for money. If anything that gives him way more reason to pick on Somerton because it feels more personal. It's no different from Karl Jobst going after Billy Mitchell or Todd Rogers.
