that's dumb because i can go out and buy an artillery piece right now and its completely legal and above board according to the feds. A US civil war era breech loading cannon isn't even considered a firearm under the law and you can just go buy it without telling the ATF, but you can absolutely go out and buy a new howitzer. all you need is a $200 dollar tax stamp.
I have fired one of the pictured cannons. its pretty fun. you can shoot it as fast as you can load a shell in the breech. pretty high tech for the 1860s.
