Unpopular Opinions about Video Games

I remember when the first AC came out and I played a bit at a friend’s and I just assumed that obviously the ending would take place in the present/future with Desmond absorbing the assassin skillset. I never really got into the games since I found the combat clunky but apparently they never did that?
That was the direction they were going, but then they realized they had a money printer with AAA historical games, but instead of actually commit to a change of direction they just drug the story and shat out half-assed history game with half-assed Illoominati conspiracy drivel for decades.

That's not even an unpopular opinions, not everyone is a fan of RCS as Sonic and a lot of people do agree that he's shit as Batman.
Try telling that to the people who think Arkham Origins is "underrated" and he's the next Kevin Conroy (ha)

Nolan North himself, voice of Desmond, confirmed the present day plan at one point. I wish they'd done it that way, it sounds so much cooler than than generic history game, and Desmond was actually a somewhat interesting character before they killed him off. Now the modern day part of the story is completely pointless, I don't know why the bother to even include it in the newer games.

I'm not going to defend Origins because I honestly don't remember much about the game but I did like that it actually had boss fights, unlike Arkham Knight with the Batmobile being overused to hell.

Knight had one or two good boss fights, the Batmobile was overused but it was pretty fun to drive around.
Origins boss fights were kind of overrated. The overhyped Deathstroke one boils down to a pretty standard fight with some QTEs thrown in. The whole game is just a clunkier knock-off of City, which actually had some really unique fights. The Mr. Freeze one is pretty much the standout fight of the series. It's not a bad game or anything, it just pales in comparison to the main trilogy.

I don't like how damage from explosives to players have been significantly nerfed in FPS games. Ever since OMA Noob Tube spam was a thing in the original MW2, FPS games (and not just COD), have nerfed explosive damage so much, as if Activision had a personal vendetta against people that use Grenade Launchers and RPGs. It's as if the RPGs in today's FPS games shoot beanbags, and not rockets that kill people.

I very much agree that Origins was City knockoff but that's far from a bad thing. While the Deathstroke fight was really just a button masher, at least it was something compared to the "fight" in Arkham Knight. Origins Firefly is actually a fight instead of another Batmobile chase like he was in Knight. I honestly can't remember a single decent boss fight in Knight that wasn't a Batmobile fight. Even the Batmobile boss fights were boring. The big important fight with the Jason was very subpar as well.

Mr. Freeze is definitely the best fight in the series but I'd say Clayface was probably the second best in the whole series. Knight is a better game than Origins in every way except the boss fights, which is Knight's biggest issue. That isn't to say that the boss fights in Origins are amazing but it's just a situation of "winning by default".

Arkahm Origins was good, I don't get why people hate it so much. They cry it's a City "knockoff" and then cry that Knight wasn't enough of a City knockoff cause it had too much Batmobile.

But I might just have a soft spot for Batman during Winter/Christmas as Batman Returns was my favorite Batman thing when I was like 3 years old. I don't know.

Knight was my favorite game of the series actually. Origins being a City knockoff is a disappointment because it takes what City did and does it worse. The combat is clunky, traversal is slow until you unlock Batwing fast travel, and Batman's voice isn't even close to as good. Had they just had Kevin Conroy do Origins, hell, even had Troy Baker do both Batman and Joker (his Batman actually sounds much closer to what you'd expect a young Conroy to sound like), it would have been better. And I don't understand why they felt the need to mess with the combat, it's fluid in City, but it actually feels worse in Origins.

Frankly, the best thing about Origins is Alfred.

They didn't have Rocksteady, Conroy, and Hamill do it because they were making Arkham Knight at the time.

I have heard your criticism of the combat before, can you actually show any visual comparisons of what you mean?

I've seen tons of people say the combat is worse and tons of people say the combat feels the same.

Mark me in the "I didn't notice a change" when it comes to combat in Origins.

But I wasn't a dude who played City non stop until the release of Origins either so *shrug*

Edit: I do recall Origins probably bein the first case of everyone telling me a game runs like dog shit on PC only for me to find it runs completely fine on my modest PC, a trend that has continued on through Cyberpunk and Starfield.

It's not something you can really show visually, it looks about the same on-screen; it's about control timings. I think one of the big issues was that unlike the other games, you can't cancel out of an attack, so if you've just hit the attack button and an enemy is about to hit you, you can't dodge or counter until the animation completes, whereas you can do that in the other games.

I got Asylum, City, and Origins all at the same time a while ago in some kind of pack for like 10 bucks I think.

Played all of them back to back and even did most of the combat challenges in all of them.

Don't remember having any problem with Origins' combat system when playing right after City.

I played on PC with KBM though, I've always wondered if this is a placebo or maybe an issue with consoles/controller?

Depends on when you played it and what settings you used. I'm pretty sure Origins had a special new snow physics system? I seem to remember it could tank your frame rate, but it's been a while.

Are you sure it's not like this in the other games? I know the ground pound animation specifically is like that in all of them, you can't counter anything until it finishes.

Yes, I'm talking about the basic attack, not the special ones.

I think it was the DX11 settings that killed framerates. I always turned those off so I could use Texmod anyway.
