Oh hunty - it was, is, and always will be a meritocracy, despite the best efforts of you and your hugbox-kin.

The "system" didn't like what you were selling, and is telling you "Tits Git Gud or GTFO".

Y'know... it's amazing when you read this as a post of self-reflection and awareness.

On some basis, Zoe is right. It was a meritocracy with no politics. Personal connections? Sure. That happens even in meritocracies to some degree but they also tend to weed out the people that can't do the job, or find something they'd be more useful at.

Then this tiny ass "dev" nobody had heard off pissed off her ex and opened a fucking pandora's box. A ton of other journos with no connection tried to make bank on it and inadvertedly revealed a very, very rotten core to the supposed meritocratic utopia.

Of course, it wasn't even the devs or companies that had to weather this shitstorm. It was the media arm which had become fearful of blacklists and corporate moneymen instead of being able to produce content genuinely and this was certainly laid more bare than people had suspected because certain journos did this automatically with someone without corporate moneybags backing them up.

So... yeah. Kind of... ironically reflective.

I had no idea Courtney Love was actually hot instead of just a hot mess.

Hard drugs and alcohol will fuck you up in a crazy small amount of time fam

Case in point, that's a year and a half:

That's like reverse Chelsea, where the ice cream and self-hatred blow you up harder than talibans at a girls school

It's going to remain that way, because no matter how hard YOU and your people will try; your low budget, low effort, artsy hipster garbage walking simulators will never become the new video gaming standard you seem to think they deserve to be.

Changing the media face of the culture didn't work.

Insulting the legions of dedicated autists committed to this passtime and thinking that supplementing them and their cultural identity with jobless, college aged normalfags blew up in your face.

In short, you've done everything, dear Chelsea, but the one thing that would have actually gotten you some legitimate merit in this industry: Work and Dedication.

She was a stripper for a while, too.

For about a day at best yes.

She harped on and on about wanting to be a stripper in her old not-suicide-girls journal. She got an interview and somehow passed it. On her first night she ended up getting pissed off with the clientele and then threw up in the middle of a poledancing set. She didn't last much longer after that.

Also the Amy Winehouse comparison is a bit ehh, I believe she was already on the drugs before she got big. It only got worse as a result of the fame meaning an influx of yes-people allowing the habit to continue.

I feel like there's a real missed opportunity with the book and movie deal. I would totally read about and watch a story about Chelsea's cognitive dissonance between thinking she's the savior of the video games industry or an important person with a voice to be heard while shooting nudes for a suicide girls knockoff and aspiring to be a stripper, then puking on stage. Like just an examination of the depths of narcissism and lack of self awareness.

Something like Shattered Glass or Mommy Dearest with the person having success at the start and then their personality flaws making them fail and lose what they have. But instead have pretty much the opposite, starting from a horrible place and not improving themselves at all but gaining more success because of other like minded individuals with similar flaws finding excuses for their obvious problems and trying to manipulate events and public opinion to make them seem like a bigger deal than they actually are.

What's a better story, overcoming cyberbullying and your ex boyfriend, or examining how truly shitty and disgusting a person you can be while still being able to convince yourself you are a hero and have other people back up that delusional sense of significance?

That book that Zoe, Anita, Leigh Alexander and a bunch of other hacks put out sold a whopping 250 copies.

This makes me hope that Zoe actually gets a book written just to see how hard it bombs. Same with a movie. Outside of some betas on Twitter and some thirsty video game "reporters", no one gives a shit about this stuff.

Didn't Wu talk about a book about women in gaming that he contributed to? I'd imagine that the $50 price for a book that's not even a hardcover means that it's just gathering dust.

It was never meant to to sell though, it was just an elaborate self-publishing/self-citing recursive promotion scheme.
