<pushcx> Argh, good morning, I'm awake. I've gotten emails about the upcoming renewal but I guess it didn't happen.
<pushcx> I have the proforma invoice that the renewal should have happened (CRI Domains has comped it for us) but it didn't happen. I'm testing multiple browsers but their payment gateway seems to be down.
<pushcx> Yeah this payment gateway seems pretty broken. I can view the invoice but can't get anything but a 500 when I attempt to load a payment page. I'm emailing support and the contact I had there.
<pushcx> Both the billing and support pages are broken, in both english and serbian. Not going so great here.
<pushcx> I have the option to mail payment but it's not even clear what that medium would be.
<pushcx> The invoice has changed to 'cancelled' in the customer panel, I think the registrar is in motion.
<pushcx> whois says our expiration date is a year out
<pushcx> I think they have fixed it and now DNS is propagating.
<pushcx> I registered lobsters.dev years ago because I was nervous about a country code domain with the only registrar I could find in a foreign country whose language I don't speak. This is the kind of thing I worried about.
<pushcx> Sorry about the outage. Not a great way to start my day. Last time I looked I couldn't find a US-based registar who did .rs, but it's been 6+ years, so I'll look again.

Kinda retarded this guy doesn't have monitoring for upcoming domain expirations.

they have a thread up here (direct, archive)
Personally I don't get how people miss stuff like this. If you're forgetful, just pay 5 or 10 years in advance. if that's not an option, setup a secondary email address only for mission-critical stuff and check it every morning. After re-reading, looks like it was a screwup on the registrar side of things.
Domains are literally the easiest part of hosting something. (ironic with current news here but that's a different topic)

Mine has a little button that says "auto-renew" and as long as I login whenever I get a new credit card it's pretty bulletproof.

But I guess if you're dealing with random country code domains it may not work as well.

Apparently it was some issue with his domain name registrar.

I disagree. If something goes wrong, a human touch will be needed.

I don't blame him for this issue. The DNS is awful. I just know when mine need renewal and check for e-mail once a week or so.

I recently received an e-mail stating that the COM top-level domain will have a price increase soon, due to inflation. The cost of storing some records only ever decreases, and these rent seekers see fit to raise the prices like this.

There's an interesting conversation linked from there giving examples of DNS abuse. Large corporations play with different rules than the proles; their domain names will never be taken, and they can take our domain names if they feel like it.

You've answered your own question there. There's a labour cost that will be driving the inflation, it's not just storing the records. Not that I don't think they're trying it on...

Weird news, the Thorium browser (a chrome fork that purports to be much faster) was found to have furry porn and images of (allegedly - I didn't look) botched circumcision cocks of including those of babies (not a direct link).

It's 404 now but someone archived an example of the furry porn linked to his site. Also someone on /g/ grabbed an image from the browser itself.

Be aware the mutilated cocks section is still available as of this post.

Yeah, I was too quick to reply and got it wrong, but I edited the post with this realization. Here's more information:

Good for him, honestly.
What I don't understand why he has to lump it all in the thorium browser repo. He could have easily made a different one. It doesn't really breathe confidence having that stuff in a browser children could be using, however unlikely that it is.

Jay Naylor and Bonifasko art? That's an odd combo. Any indication if it was just a site they pulled in or what?

For those not up on Animal Control, Naylor is an odd choice because he's a heckin' problematic conservative. The deer drawer is just one of the modern crop of Russian drawwhores.
