Flickr is/was a great place to view a treasure trove of old images left behind from their glory days. Anyone yearning for a snapshot of the "before times" can see what's left of it in relative HD. Their userbase isn't super active anymore, so things are less likely to get buried.

I'm a bit of a makeup autist and enjoyed the abandoned groups. Women would share pictures of their vanities and mac purchases. Harmless stuff, and unlike now, nobody's screeching about James Charles or getting you to buy shit. Quite peaceful, actually.

Flickr has been hot-potatoed among companies, gradually rolling out policies that wipe more and more of their site's content.
A recent policy is that free accounts cannot upload any photos not marked "family friendly", and those not premium or logged in cannot view mature content.

Guess who this didn't affect? Logged out, his photos are viewable. All of them.

The funny thing about that is, some of the things I'm into are things a lot of people don't touch. That I know of. I've noticed there's a small handful of female nerd interests - and they're very specific - that are largely left alone by anyone who isn't the aforementioned group. Those who try and imitate end up making their own groups that are easily separable. It's weird but it's also nice. I think the flickr groups the trannies ruined were largely because of the age demographic/they do that to the entire website - my weird hobby was just another casualty.

Fun fact - trannies ruin everything, but there's one "hobby" I found that they haven't. I've never seen gay makeup artists care about/discuss the topic in the way I've seen women do. Many female enthusiasts seem to have an emotional/mental connection to makeup that I've never seen in someone like, say, Jeffree Star - even though he has truckloads of the stuff. The consistency in this behavior is what gets me.

April Ashley on the other hand… was a model in the early 60s, was outed by the press, and then married the son and heir of a peer (who knew he was marrying a bloke), which led to a famous court case over the marriage’s legality in the UK when they split.

The marriage case also had the knock on impact of defining biological sex and legal sex.

Basically April wanted alimony, the husband wanted the marriage annulled so he wouldn't have to pay it, and the argument was the marriage could be annulled as invalid. Part of the argument for annulment was because April wasn't a woman and at the time, marriage was only between a man and a woman). The other argument was that the marriage wasn't consummated because consummating a marriage meant having penis-in-vagina sex, and April's amhole didn't count as a vagina so therefore it was impossible to consummate the marriage.

April paid National Insurance on the woman's rate (married women could pay small stamp on the assumption they'd only be working for pin money and would live off their husband's pension in later life) but the judge upheld that for the purposes of marriage she was and always would be a man. He also separately confirmed that even if that wasn't the case, it could still be annulled because a "surgical cavity"/"so-called artificial vagina" was in fact not a vagina - and anyway the difference between an amhole and just straight up gay anal sex was something to be "measured in centimetres". After that point trans women could no longer marry men (they'd been skirting by up to that point with "special licenses" which were basically the local registry office going "uh dunno what to do in this situation").

Consequently this is why PhilosophyTube whines that he "can't get married" in the UK, because the law is that the officiant has to use either the word "husband" or "wife" based exclusively on what's on the birth certificate and they're not allowed to switch it up or say something gender neutral. The exception is with a gender recognition certificate which Choob doesn't want to get because it's too gatekeepy or whatever (they were originally brought in to let trans women marry men again).

One interesting point that gets overlooked is the Baron Rowallan himself was a crossdresser who only married April because he was on the AGMP-AGP pipeline. Unfortunately for the Baron he's was what the kids these days called a "brickhon" who was disgusted at how unconvincing he looked in drag. He became obsessed with April because she was so convincingly womanlike and was attracted specifically to her transformation, so left his wife and kids for her... but the marriage broke down after 14 days and April (knowing a good thing when she saw it) didn't want to grant a divorce because she wanted the Baron's money - hence the entire situation.

Essentially the gender recognition certificate changes someone's legal sex. You don't need one to change your sex on your driving license or passport, it's just to amend your birth certificate. With a GRC you can then marry as the different gender (although the Church can still refuse) and it's argued (but ambiguous) that you could not be excluded from single sex spaces. For the most part with the rights afforded to trans people in the UK and the fact there's now civil same sex marriages, there's not much need for one.

However to get a GRC you need to have been trans for at least two years, have a diagnosis of gender dysphoria and also have the gender recognition panel (some judges) sign off on it, and they can reject it if they think someone's not actually got enough evidence of having been living as their desired gender for long enough. This differs from e.g. Ireland, where you can just pay €20 to change your birth certificate, or the state of New York where you can change your birth certificate to say you're non-binary (non-binary identity is not legally recognised in the UK). This wasn't an issue when GRCs were brought in and because the process was long and involved they UK government just automatically accepted GRCs from other countries, but now there's self ID etc these people are no longer meeting the UK's requirements for a GRC and so they're not automatically accepted.

Even the article acknowledges the GRC doesn't really do anything, although it does scaremonger that this could mean trans Americans will be banned from pissing.

I've seen this too! Not to PL but as a teen I used to be into fandom (yes, I know) and basically all fic writers/readers were women or fakebois and the ones written by men were pretty blatantly so. Interesting to think about.

Speaking of reddit subs, I've also noticed I don't really see mtfs in r/skincareaddiction much while there are a shocking number in r/curlyhair, but both are very photo-heavy subs. Interestingly most of the transes posting in the former are ftms. I'd wager it's just that makeup plays into the AGP and skincare doesn't...?

Please understand that this is during a shoot and I’m trying as hard as I can to stay in character to not ruin the shot. Me laughing, smiling or being playful is a part of the performance. Things like me ducking, flinching, covering my head, and passing out are not a part of the performance.

CHLOE CORRUPT strangled me with a chain until I passed out during a shoot. She smacked me in the face several times which was a boundary we went over before filming. During our pre-scene consent review, Chloe was told an understood that any quick movements near my head are not allowed, so that includes cock slapping, smacking, or moving in any aggressive way towards my face with their hands. It causes a trauma response so I’ll start flinching, get scared, go into a defensive posture, curl up and protect my head. And obviously being strangled to the point I would pass out was never something I consented to. After she got what she wanted from me, she kicked me out of her place to wander the streets of sf alone at 1am, over 2000 miles away from my home.

Before I was kicked out she showed many things that to me was very concerning. Such as: stating she’s not in porn for money but for fame and to have sex with attractive people, insulting escorts as a whole as people that lack talent which is why we do what we do, gossiping and hating on most people, pressuring me not work with people if she doesn’t like them, frequently insulting her friends behind their backs, threatened her own friend with forcible sex over the hood of her car if she didn’t stop being annoying, admitted to using violence to extort money out of others prior to transition, pressuring myself and others not to work with people that refuse to work with her, seemed to me to be very hurt if friends of hers had sex with someone else without her own involvement, believing that anyone that shoots for grooby is trash and a sell out, believing one that uses a cell phone or tripods are trash content creators, stating that she feels that all transmasculine individuals look like one of the three characters from Ed, Edd, and Eddie, having personal vendettas with anyone that doesn’t want to shoot with her, and I’ve heard stories of her pushing and guilting others (say things like ‘it’s because you think i’m disgusting you won’t shoot with me, isn’t it) on set to be included in the shoot…. The list goes on and on and on. The question I kept on asking myself, why does she hate so many things and so many people?

I flew from DC to the bay area to film with her and a few others. This trip as a whole cost me quite a lot so I was already committed to do what I had to, to get the shoots. I did everything I could to try and keep people pleased with me, which included giving 150 for her gfs car repair. The next day however I was lectured that I should have paid for the whole thing and that it’s my fault that Chloe has to sell cameras to pay for her gfs car repair. I was paying for most peoples food and things while there, when I started to put the breaks on that, that was coincidently when I was kicked out. She said it was because she felt I was talking shit about her and violated her trust by doing so. I didn’t do any such thing, even so though is that reason to kick a transwomen out to the street at 1am when she lives on the other side of the country? I felt like she used me for my body and my money and when she got all she could, she kicked me out on the street without any concern about what would happen to me. I ended up staying with someone I knew a tiny bit but I had to walk through the tenderloin, alone, at about 1:30am, dressed very slutty and carrying 2 suit cases. It comes to no surprised but I got robbed during that walk. I bought an early ticket home since all the rest of the shoots were through Chloe’s network and she was pulling the plug on that.

Coming out in the aftermath of a tragedy

My little sister and other half died suddenly yesterday. I had to notify my parents which is easily the new worst moment of my life and the last 24 hours feel like a haze, when I called my mom it felt like I was playing the most fucked up prank of all time because it still doesn’t feel real that she is gone.

Her body is halfway across the country and my mom is currently on her way out to deal with things, I’m not sure what is happening in regards to a funeral but I know there will be one which brings me to my issue: I’m not out to half of my family.

I’m about 2 years into my transition, going my a new name, over a year on T and passing — to be completely honest I never came out to my dads side because I rarely see them and none of the older folks are online and while I love them we’re just not close and it never felt like the right time to bring it up. My moms side knows and uses my name and pronouns and like I’m just trying to figure out the best way to go about this. I do think they would be supportive if confused (they’re all democrats but like I’m not sure how many have met an out queer person) but like I just can’t imagine having the energy to teach gender studies 101 right now and like this isn’t about me.

I know this isn’t the most pressing issue but right now I’m just sitting around waiting for there to be something to do and I don’t want this to end up being a source of stress for someone else.
