Western Animation - Discuss American, Canadian, and European cartoons here (or just bitch about wokeshit, I guess)

Amphiba was OK as far as modern Disney TV animation goes and SU started out ok...when it was on during the last few pre clown world years. I don't wanna be too 🌈 but I wanna try and give something a chance before looking at it through the lenses of am aging, jaded, and cynical gem xer *sigh*
It's the same shit as Owl House, your taste is crap

Is it wrong to say Steven Universe was kinda of a fluke in hindsight? This is not to say it was never good but i'd argue it only started good cause Cartoon Network was more controlling with the action and villain of the week episodes, and we gave it a pass cause it had no ongoing drama or villains. The series peaks at Jailbreak (season 1 finale) and NEVER reaches that level of quality again. It's like once Sugar got full reigns the series went to shit, with her saying in interviews she went hard against all CN warnings and she would do a gay wedding even if it killed the show.

It's not like people who worked in SU went to make other gems (ha) either, as OK KO was ugly and floped afaik. So i'm not seeing how Sugar is this big marketing point they think it is.

Troons, particularly those who were originally incells. Hide behind the troon shield because it grants them freedom to threatean, intimidate, and coerce real women. When they were "cis straight white males" nobody backed them because they were seen as the "oppressors" by society.

The same applies to the Youngblood in animation today. You can't say anything bad about sugar, Terrance, danna simpson (troon who almost got his webcomic phoebe and her unicorn made into a show) or the Crowleys because if you do. They can just say you're being bigoted, homophobic, or transphobic.

You can't say a show made by these people were failures even if it's written plain as day on the walls.

Nothing wrong with giving things a fair watch. Nothing wrong with deciding you disliked it after the fact, either.

Amphibia was good, SU had some decent stuff. A new property with people from both as the animation industry currently is though provides a lot of warning signs. Like you I'll see how it goes, though I have little faith.

Let's not go overboard, Owl House was a disaster from day one while Amphibia had a lot of promise. Season 1 was a nice story about a girl learning to stop being a doormat and take responsibility for her actions, yeah it still had some really cringy parts that have already age bad (Anne doing the dab) typical of modern animation but it had heart, however by the end of season 2 it was clear that Bradly gave up with trying to keep the consistency of the world cohesive and the fantasy setting quickly devolve into anime fights and rushed character development because he and his team wanted Amphibia to be one million things at the same time.
The breaking point to me was the first half of season 3, this one was produced during the pandemic and you can tell because it melted the brain of the writers, the fantasy setting is replaced to give you a 9 episode commercial about how great LA is with a Christmas special which only point was for Bradly to network with Sugar (and given the news it worked) and the second half that seems a return to from but too little to late for it to matter. And the ending that's yet another sad attempt at anime battles but now with K-Pop! and the most egregious thing: the protagonist "dies" well except she doesn't, an omnipresent god INTRODUCED RIGHT IN THE FINAL EPISODE makes a copy of her to go and continue her live, please note that she didn't got revived and instead got cloned as to muddy the waters so you don't notice how lame this bait and switch is, why? Because Bradly wanted something impactful but without actual consequences.

That pretty much Amphibia in a nutshell, a series that baits you into thinking is doing something clever or daring but in actually it cowards at the thought of real consequences. Now you might say "well that sounds like crap, how is this supposed to be better than Owl House?" and yes you could argue that a series that starts good and ends bad is worse that something that was shit from the get go but I can enjoy the good parts of Amphibia because at least for a while it had an identity while OH was always Harry Potter but gayer.

Suffice to say, I don't have any hopes because its made by two people that have shown in the past that they have good ideas but completely fumble the execution.

Steven is much like Korra, Young Justice or Adventure Time where it sort of fluctuates in quality as it had no clear direction. These shows got too hung up on expanding lore and world building, forgetting most of the strengths are with the main cast.

Steven’s later seasons still have some strong points going back and were building up an interesting narrative. The issue with the series is Rebecca’s insistence that Beach City is super important and that we need to waste time dicking around with Ronaldo or that black pizza family.

Like Adventure Time, I believe the crew kept thinking in infinite renewals, only for reality to kick in and make them realize they have 1 season to actually pay off a show. With a tard-wrangler, Steven easily could have been amongst the best of the network.

I've thought about it a fair amount over the years, and I came to the realization that SU's main issue is its overly ambitious nature. There's a lot of ingredients and not all of them get the time needed to cook properly due to everything being mixed together. As it stands, you get a coming of age story that works in and of itself, but the other elements aren't nearly as strong as they could have been because they were stretching themselves too thin.

That said, I'm generally most positive towards it than most here and I think this collaboration between Braly and Sugar, divorced of any existing IP, is mostly a good thing. Let's see what they can do with clear limitations this time.

It started off strong and stayed that way for the most part but like a lot of Disney shows it ended in a mess...also did it need a tineskip to a full decade as its finale? Does any Disney show need to jump two or ten years later to show its end? Really that's a lot of Disney's tv out put in recent years they start off adequately at best often end as total messes or even disasters. And that's assuming the plug isnt pulled on them due to low ratings.

I just had a brother try and explain that Mel Blanc was Elmer Fudd's main voice-actor because of the active years he was as him. He wouldn't acknowledge that it was Arthur Q. Bryan whom made Elmer's voice famous simply because, in his eyes, he voiced him for less years than Blanc, nevermind the amount of shorts in the golden years Arthur had recorded for.

This is the same dense brick wall who will die on the "A:TLA is anime" hill without fail.

He voiced Fudd in "What's Opera, Doc?"

Your brother's argument is invalid and retarded and gay.

Hold on there big fella...how old is said brother? I can kinda understand some young blood not knowing who Arthur q is. Like the movie stars of the day the looney tunes took jabs at. The names of the voice actors save Mel blanc have sadly been lost to the sands of time.

The dude is apparently still arguing the issue after being corrected, which sounds retarded. Blanc definitely had a great run with the voice, but Bryan INVENTED it. Blanc took it over. This isn't denigrating Blanc, who may have been the greatest VA of all time in Western animation, and they'd obviously pick him because he could do literally any voice.

In fact, I believe when he died they tried to replace him with someone else before going back to Blanc (who had also done the role even while Bryan was still alive).

But Bryan defined the role. Blanc was doing the voice Bryan created, as he could do nearly any voice of any kind.

What's your opinion about McCracken, fellow kiwifarmers? Personally I find his WIP Foster's project to be retarded.

Retard, I said I like John's work, John is still piece of shit sick fuck that needs get locked up
I may have jumped the gun too quickly and I want to apologize for coming onto you like that, especially pre-maturely.

Imma be real here, I love the Foster's Home, Wander and OG PPG, but the new projects he announced a few months ago is just retarded
