They used to have deal with other companies. I remember them on the podcast six or seven years ago talking about how they'd partnered with some Australian company to make their merch so the Aussies didn't need to pay extra, and I thought there was something similar done in Europe. Though considering how far they've fallen it wouldn't surprise me if those deals have since ended.
And according to the other tweets he made, it might have cost more. I can see it costing that much, animation is expensive, even mo-cap shit. Even if you want to make an anime with a real Japanese studio, it's gonna cost you $150k for a twenty minute episode.
