Well in terms of views it defintely seems to help. If he would not play BG3 he most likely would have fallen below 500k monthly views. That and..well. all that DRAMA.
His real job doesn't garner much attention anymore. Most people probably just watch to see him fuck up while he gets whaled on by the same old dents under different sock names. And let's be real: even with all that money he BEGS, BEGS, and then BEGS MORE. Plus the only one who probably celebrate are Doordash and Scopely.

It's very telling that, as soon as viewership dies down, and the only support for the game comes from one or two huge whale tips, he pulls this shit out. A lot of us, myself included, were wrong because we thought his ego would never let him play this game because DIV2 made him look like a fat retard, not because it wouldn't get whaled. I think everyone (but phil) knew this would make him bank, it was just his own ego getting in his way.

Phil saying people thought this was going to be like DIV2 is peak narc behavior in action. He clearly rage quit div2 because the game is a puzzle style tactical game and hes too retarded to handle any puzzle thats not shape and color coded for toddlers. It was a players choice game, it made t3 tip goal every stream, and had normal attendance. This is a little off topic, but it feels appropriate somehow... today youtube recommended a VOD of a Jerma (one of the OGs, like Dave) stream to me:

It's a sponsored (gasp, oh no) House Flipper 2 stream, and it just struck me how it's the antithesis of a DSP live stream:
It's an actual chill stream (without bastardizing the term) where Jerma just casually hangs out with chat, discusses various topics, while playing a game that DSP would never touch. There's no begging, no snorts, and actual positivity, chill fun.

I don't watch as much youtube or twitch anymore as I used to 5 or 10 years ago, but it's just incredible how far the 'competition' has left DSP in the dust from the outset. No one should be surprised that the only audience DSP can hang onto are a handful of wheelchairs with their social security kahntributions. It's just such a stark contrast, House Flipper 2 is a super boring game and yet Jerma pulls (as of now) 40k views on a VOD.
