Sony hate thread

I'm not so much cheering Sony as I am laughing at Xbox.

TBF, that's more telling of the console market and the average consumer's mindset for brand popularity. Sony has short term success with the PS5 because it is currently the hot new electronic fad to own. That is because of their exclusives and prior success with the PS4. Think of it like this: Madden sells well each calendar year; that doesn't mean that Madden is necessarily a quality product worth celebrating or recognizing long term.

Sony has little faith in their exclusives that it STILL needs CoD to move consoles and subscriptions. And the current CoD (MWIII) is objectively inferior to previous entries based on community feedback.

Sony's output may be formulaic to the point of parody, but XBOX genuinely has nothing right now. More acquisitions, maybe, but no actual titles to speak of.
That's why console wars are retarded nowadays. Two autists fighting over list wars 10 years ago had merit. Now, all three consoles are over-priced dog shit with varying (rainbow) colours of slop on them.

PC and piracy is the only way.

So basically Sucker Punch might be the only first-party studio with a worthwhile game coming for the rest of the PS5 lifetime, a brand with no future, no identity and no games.
I haven't been following the thread too closely, what game is Sucker Punch working on?

I didn't see anything posted in the leak that mentioned what Sucker Punch was working on but a year ago they were posting job listings for "character-driven open world". So it's likely either going to be a Ghost of Tsushima sequel or a new Infamous game.

Because I couldn't find the dev costs for PS4 Spider-Man and we know now not to trust any public info that Sony puts out on this, let's just assume the PS4 Spider-Man cost the same amount as Miles Morales to produce, so that's another $156M.
-Total of costs comes to $666M. This means the profit of this franchise was at most $1,028M and that's not knowing the exact price of the first Spider-Man game, which by all means was likely higher than Miles Morales, the glorified expansion they released where they reused practically everything for a much shorter game.
Don't worry, there's a leak for that. Ironically taken from a presentation arguing for the exact same thing you are- that Insomniac/Sony should fund more "smaller" games as opposed to fewer larger ones.

edit:
Oops, I'm sorry, the file upload system is fucked right now. You'll just have to trust me that the numbers said 270million for Spiderman 2 and only 90million for Miles, which took lots of assets from (and was practically just an expansion for) Spiderman 1.

An unannounced open world title. Probably GoT or Infamous. And yes, it will be a 3rd person over the shoulder "Sony game."

All PS4/Early5 Sony first party sales figures leaked.
Last of Us 2 had zero legs lol.
Bloodbourne sold very well.
Am I retarded or don't understand numbers? That Last of Us 2 sold more than Tsushima seems deranged to me. Bloodborne generated half the revenue than LoU2 in all it's lifetime? I also imagine it cost a fraction of it, but still, kind of kills my faith on humanity more. Or am I reading this shit incorrectly?

...you can also install a BitTorrent client and get all your games for free.
I'm happy to pay to support developers I like making games I like but that's becoming rarer every day.
I wouldnt play this AAAA movie game slop for free, I wouldnt play it if I was paid to play it
It's insane that so much of the game industry is following the dying hollywood film industry when games were doing so much better on their own merits

TLOU2 sold 4 million units in its first weekend, a lot of normies didn't read the leak or didn't believe it all. So they tricked a lot of normies with that, especially the ones that bought those Collector Editions or whatever at a higher price. Then it took 2 years for it to sell 6 million more units to reach 10 million, which is atrocious for supposedly one of the biggest flagships of Sony. It's why despite selling 10.3M units to Ghost's 7.6M units, TLOU2 only made $447M to Ghost's $397M. So a game that sold 73.8% units of TLOU2 made 88.8% of TLOU2's net sales, which means TLOU2 was heavily discounted and in the bargain bin like everyone was talking about online.

Then you can add in the Director's Cut/Remaster for another 1.8M units, which brings Ghost to total 9.4M units and 504M$ in net sales. They have the TLOU2 Remaster in the pipeline but I doubt that will put TLOU2+TLOU2R over GoT+GoTR seeing as the Spider-Man Remaster sold only 4M units and made $50M in revenue while costing $39M to make. Consider that TLOU2 was also super expensive to make at $220M, which was likely far more than whatever it cost to make Ghost and it makes Ghost look even more profitable compared to TLOU2. Not to mention in 2022 (2 years after TLOU2 and Ghost released), Ghost was the 10th most played game on Playstation while TLOU2 was 51st.
[archive of article discussing most played Playstation games of 2022].

Bloodborne was also a lot more niche than TLOU2 was in the mainstream, regardless of what souls fans want to believe. As I've discussed in a prior post, the leaks and prior info makes it look more apparent that TLOU2 made like $50M at most in profit. Bloodborne made $265M in net sales but I think it's safe to say that Bloodborne didn't cost $215M to make. Then you have to factor in that these development costs likely don't include marketing costs and TLOU2 was massively marketed to an insane degree.

There, faith in humanity restored.

I've said it before.
If I could do it over I'd skip the Xbox and just have a PS5 and Switch.
"Next Gen" for me might just be whatever Nintendo poops out & finally get a new PC.
I've always been against Sony and Microsoft's shitty console circus ring act. It's pointless.

If someone has a ps5, they ain't human. They are literal vampire pot-belly goblins

The reason to have faith in humanity is that most people don't own that zogbox.

The Last of Us 2 most likely barely broke even with marketing costs factored in. With the cancellation of The Last of Us Factions 2 they are likely looking at a loss for the overall game. With the remaster and new HBO season coming up they might return to being profitable. The license that HBO pays them for the show, plus the free marketing of the brand, is likely keeping them afloat for another year or two to see if they want to return to the franchise with another game.

But I would honestly not be surprised if another failed project like Factions 2 actually makes this franchise a money loser overall. Which is both embarrassing and simultaneously horrifying for the gaming industry. Chasing the 'games as a service' model arguably did more damage to the franchise than firing the writers combined with the plot of the second game.

It got REALLY retarded once they started to copy Nintendo. There was no reason for either one of them to do the whole "motion control"shtick. Sony making 15 bajillion different PS3's was dumb, and Microsoft not listening to their QA/RnD team regarding the 360 and the RRoD was pants-shittingly stupid, no to mention the XBONE fiasco + Kinect.

Which was funny, because Sega was doing that just to spite Sony's Playstation by the time Sega implemented gimmicks for the Dreamcast. Even Sony did the same with PS2 for one particular device used for karaoke. Sony and Micro had way too many ideas to implement after the Wii became a rousing success in the video game industry, thus Nintendo rebounding their big success since the 80s/early-90s.
