General Discussion for Virtual Youtubers / Vtubers / Chuubas - it's okay to be a simp for 2D, just don't thirstpost.

watching the Phase Connect Year-End awards. Tenma is hosting along with Remi, who i haven't seen much of before but seems extremely "baby girl"

peepa was also supposed to host, which i wondered about since she's not rly streaming rn. ...unsurprisingly she no-showed due to internet connectivity issues. tenma briefly skinwalked/puppeted a pippa png around the screen while VERY badly imitating her which was was an intriguingly existential moment

this show was only announced a few hours before it began (in true phase connect style).

tenma could make reading a phone book entertaining but remi is hard for me to watch. the super-high-pitched voice, the infantile affect... sorry, no thanks. no shade on her as an entertainer, that style is just emphatically not for me.

this show's categories (like "most pon" and "most seiso") are already way better than the "big" vtuber awards, but there are only 2 girls nominated per category. i know phase connect isn't THAT big, but even 3 per category would help it seem more like an actual awards show
That award show was the very definition of scuff, everything about it sounded like the staff threw shit together at the last minute. It was hilariously fucked. They even put Hina as a nomination for scaredy-cat when she's just debuted and the only horror game she played was...Exit 8 right before that stream.

I do agree though, I've never found Remi entertaining. Remi and Rie are the two girls that I can't stand solo. At least Rie can often be entertaining in collabs but Remi just isn't that entertaining even in a collab.

Clip Tax: Lia's drunk guerilla stream was such a hilarious shitshow

Seems that Shion, distraught after her wife Gura disappeared into the merch shilling dimension, never to return, is taking a health hiatus.

With all of these vtubers needing to take long extended breaks for their mental health… what the fuck is cover doing behind the scenes? Yagoo has to be working the talent like Chinese sweatshop workers with all the events, promos, live performances and practices, studio time for songs, and stream time they have to do.

Does anyone know if the talent is contractually obligated to do all that shit or is it all optional for additional pay?

The English talent has seemingly been pretty open about being mentally fucked up and burned out doing all this content for Cover.

I think there's about 5 layers of unfounded assumption going on there.

If it's a matter of cover forcing extra recording and performance work onto them it doesn't show because cover doesn't put that much extra content out requiring work from the talents. A voice pack here and there and a holo graffiti voiceover every 6 months (if that even since individual talents don't show up there that often/regularly) isn't a particularly taxing thing to do.

Performance stuff, outside of some major event like Holofes, is generally non-mandatory. Like recently Kiara did overwork herself a bit putting together her live but that was an entirely voluntary project that she wanted to do.

A lot of the members who have these burn out phases are, regularly, the same handfull of people, Shion has been on and off breaks the past couple years, people like Pekora and Marine have a habit of frying their voices and it's probably a result of the voices they force themselves to do, people like Suisei adapted and stopped forcing a voice so much to avoid it. But even with that just as many members are...... just fine, and while they might get a bit stressed during busy times of year like around fes, don't seem to have any issue with what they're doing.

Just realize these are millennial and zoomer women we're talking about, if I assumed sweatshop conditions any time women that age talked about having to "work too much" I would think every job and industry is a sweatshop. Shion's averaged less than 5 hours a week of stream time this year, I certainly don't think she's being overworked.

I get the feeling there's a lot of shit behind the screen we don't see too though.
Do they really just wake up, turn it on, and go?
Smaller corps I assume have to do their own thumbnails and research games to play.

HoloLive probably has someone do thumbnails and other things for them. I feel there is more than we see but only way we'd find out is if a talent talked about it and I doubt HoloLive would. Best bet would be maybe Phase Connect or Idle? They seem more open.

I believe Kiara mentioned making thumbnails and she teased someone else in HoloEN for not using photoshop to make their thumbnails. It doesn't take that much effort to make thumbnails if you have a folder full of assets ("here's this folder with variations of my face, here's these memes, oh and here's this folder with the art that people made in my art tag").

Like take a look at this thumbnail I made for my new clip

It looks like it took a lot of effort but it really took like 5 mins. Just had all the talent's banner art already and knew which filters to use.

I dont think cover particularly force much work on anyone, there are a few members who dont do much of anything ever
The problems generally seem to be hololive not allowing them to do what they want, permissions being a pain and scheduling things being a pain
I know Shion has previously complained about not getting to do official covers of songs she wants to cover, no idea if this is related to that
I dont think it's a coincidence that most of the problems are with the youngest members who probably never worked an actual job or that a lot of the hardest working a former wagie hags

Remi, who i haven't seen much of before but seems extremely "baby girl"
Having autism and a lisp like Miko is how you get Wemi. She managed to ignite seaweed while airfrying it. She can speak in a lower voice range, but it is rare to see.

I wouldn't put too much stock in third party hearsay.
Only time will tell.

I looked at some Kirsche stuff including the collabs they have opinions but, its nothing superbly egregious. I wouldn't call them "KiwiFarm's Vtuber" by any means. Like some people in here are suggesting unless I missed something. Maybe she goes on screaming about Taiwan or being anti china which I know their owner is afraid of cause he's from China - assuming I'm not mistaken.

You guys probably know better so fill me in.
Kirische addressed this and knows the person stirring shit , said she already had collabs with pippa after collabing with nano, and sakana doesnt give a shit as long as kirsche doesnt get into some war with a lolcow

It was Gura, she only uses freeware stuff like GIMP. Myth met up during some event in Japan, did a big collab stream, and afterward Kiara wanted to make thumbnails for upcoming streams but didn't have her laptop and so used Gura's.

the youngest members
That's something to keep in mind. Shion (and Haachama) are the only ones that were hired as minors (they were 16y/o afaik). They stopped this hiring practice for a good reason.
Regarding the thumbnail topic: Everyone makes their thumbnails by themselves to my knowledge. I even remember some girls from the jp side making some on stream during zatsudans.

Irys and Kronii watched School Days, Kronii for the very first time
This animation of the Ina Sana super bunny man collab captures their dynamics perfectly

can anyone name a vtuber who isnt annoying, patronizing, or embarassing to be seen watching
of course it's subjective but i convinced a friend who's too cool for vtubers to give ceres fauna a chance. she doesn't talk in a smoke-detector-beep high pitch, doesn't pretend to be a toddler, doesn't coombait / doesn't have jiggle-physics tits... she's just a chill anime girl who plays video games.

i also think nyanners and lord aethelstan are funny, creative and a cute couple... nyanners is the star but aethel is very talented too. they're cringey at times but definitely no more than any other youtubers. to me they're like a much more clever, imaginative (and edgier) version of gabi smolders & jack septiceye, if that's a useful comparison. i'd be curious for others' recommendations.

and yes pippa of course is #1 for most of the farms, and for good reason. idk how she would be perceived by others / non-vtuber-watches and don't care, that's my oshi

UNRELATED: what do people think of the newest phase talents? i haven't seen many opinions. i guess overall it's probably too early to tell
