Anyone on the Farms working on a tech project? Whether that be hardware, software or a combination of two, I'd be delighted to read your projects. If you've got ongoing projects, facing hardships, wanting to commence something new, learn something through experimentation, this is the place.

I'll start. I'm currently working on hosting my own image repository to replace an existing service that's been up since 2022, however it's using outdated Booru-style technology and hosted on a garbage old virtual machine in some poor 3rd world country datacentre. I'm rewriting it using a modern Next.js/Postgresql stack, but I need to self-host everything because the image repository is centred around troons/wojaks/troonjaks/impjaks/chuds/coalposting/gemposting and anywhere in-between, so I suspect many complaints will be lodged with any third-party vendor I choose.

I'm trying to give computers schizophrenia. Like hallucinations and paranoia and stuff. So it thinks things are happening that aren't and gets freaked out over benign shit. It tries to find patterns where there aren't any. I don't know why I'm doing it. I think I just hate computers and want them to suffer. The challenge is fucking with shit without just breaking it.

I have a few game projects.

I'm worried if I post them here it might be enough to doxxx me now/in the future so I'd rather not.
Same. I don't want to have my name(or at least my main alias) associated with the notorious doxxing syber-stalking suicide-inducing alt-right forum KiwiFarms. Or kiwis finding it and mocking me in "Easy to Track Username Hall of Shame".
But I can share a video of a prototype that will probably never get completed. It was somewhat similar to Fez: the level is 3D, but you play as a 2D character. Except instead of rotating the plane your character is in and projecting the level onto it, it intersects with it.

Last time I worked on it was 3 years ago, now I'm working on a roguelite.

I'm building a PC. Got roughly half the parts. It's gonna have a 12 gen Intel core, at least 2 SSD/M.2 (have), a 6-10 tb HDD, a 1000 watt power supply(have), a asrock micro atx budget board (getting for Christmas) a plug in card with USB C and a low to mid tier graphics card, something like a 4060. Goal is 1080p gaming with modern games like cyberpunk.

Wouldn't you like to know?

Third.

I considered making a game devs of KF thread, but there would be nothing of interest anyone could post. Anyone who is pro can't say anything due to NDAs, and anyone who is amateur can't because of the reasons you guys mentioned.

We should make a KF team and make a based shareware game.
I have considered something like this. Even made a thread about it back in October/Novemeber. My ideas are to either
  1. make a game jam or
  2. make a Doom mod
At present I'm leaning towards Doom. I think starting out simple with a community map project would be the way to go. Maybe January or February time.

As for my own projects. I have many tech projects on the go that have stalled for one reason or another. Such as backing up my VHS tapes, or turning an old PC into a Windows XP gaming PC. I'm currently working on a simple point and click adventure game.

You're an admin for booru.soy?
No, but I've spoken to an admin from there. It's a garbage site with like 75% SLA and shithouse CDNs. I've scraped every single post/comment from there as well, so no data will be lost on my site. I'm going to invite them to become admins/moderators on the new site that I'm building so that there's no change in leadership/control. I'm just going to manage the backend and server hosting since I use booru.soy all the time.

Are you able to share anything about the engine/process you used for making games? I've built a couple when I was a kid but never really went down that line of programming. Would be interested to hear some fun stories about problems you ran into.

Another wanna-be game dev here, although I'm kind of working backwards on my project. I can't program worth a damn, but I can draw and model and I'm learning more about materials and lighting in Unity, so my hope is to get a lot of cool visual stuff done, maybe even a fully rendered scene or two, and use that as a portfolio to find a coder I can hire to help me. Working on this has also kind of helped me get back into the saddle on creative stuff in general, and it feels nice to make something without immediately hating every facet of it.

That's great to hear man. I love when people know they're not good at a particular element but are willing to still push forward.

I know too many people that refuse to even try because they're lacking in a critical element, as if they're unable to learn or even try learn and complete the project.

Trying to get into AI LLMs, I don't know if being your 30s turns your brain to mush but I'm having a really hard time understanding this alien tech crap.

Anyone else? what are you using?

I'm Currently soldering a 8x8x8 3d led cube. It's been a little tedious thus far but i hope the end result looks good enough. After this, I think I'm gonna do some tinkering around with some FPGA boards I have. I hope to create some very interesting hardware designs.
