Western Animation - Discuss American, Canadian, and European cartoons here (or just bitch about wokeshit, I guess)

Let me help you out
wow tvb at Christmas? Can we not doom post about our inevitable plummet to bread lines and collective houses while we can still celebrate christmas?
I was already celebrating Christmas with family yesterday. Merry Christmas to all.

On a related note, rewatched Eight Crazy Nights on Amazon Prime with the family. It's weird that I liked it, and I can see why there are so many out of context shitposts and memes based off it. I followed it up by watching Die Hard afterwards.

It baffles me how they couldn't get warner animation to do the animation on 8 crazy nights itself but they still ended up getting some vets of the industry including a few who worked on Iron giant. Which is why 8cn looks like it's taking place in the future of that movies universe.

Imagine going from drawing hogarths tearful goodbye to the giant one minute the next you're detailing a man crawling out of a port o potty covered in steaming shit.

They did. They served as the animation service for that movie, one of two non-Warner movies they contributed along with the first SpongeBob movie.

Went on to "Blue Eye Samurai". Absolutely insufferable trash, made more painful by its high production quality.

Oh yes. Being white is truly impure! Says the show runners as they use blatant western motifs like the 4 horsemen of the apocalypse. Even as they suck eastern dick they can't escape the cope cage of their filthy white bodies. The scene of the evil demon pregnancy was especially pointed.

And don't get me fucking started on the ham fisted male/female dynamic, AMANDA. So sorry AMANDA you had a shitty relationship with your dad and he preferred your younger brother. That entire scene with the princess and her father was about as subtle as trying to split firewood with a sledgehammer.

Also your understanding of Japanese culture sucks. You will never be Japanese AMANDA, stop acting out your shitty revenge fantasy on your dad and a culture that did nothing to you.

I'm still watching blue eye samurai and I hate it at a primal level. This is an utter defamation against the Kingdom of the Netherlands by fucking hacks in America.

How fucking dare they. The absolute brass balled audacity that could only have been dreamed up from the fever dreams of what passes for history in California's university system.

The Dutch PROTECTED Japan. By maintaining the treaty ports under Amsterdam, Japan was never colonized by more aggressive powers in the area. Like say, RUSSIA. Japan had to forcibly enter the modern world after Napoleon fucked the dutch over a barrel and his defeat left Russia and Britain the sole powers in the area. The US sent "the black ships" around this time largely because they knew the post napoleonic order left Japan vulnerable. because the Dutch could no longer defend them.

My God I am mad on the internet about this self hating propagandists trash.

Think I've lost track of how many specials or Christmas episodes I've watched the past couple days. Still need to watch the OG though.

You will never be Japanese AMANDA

You will never be a real Japanese. You have no bushido, you have no slanted eyes, you have no microscopic penis. You are a westerner twisted by anime and coomerism into a crude mockery of eastern perfection.
All the “validation” you get is two-faced and half-hearted. Behind your back people mock you. Your parents are disgusted and ashamed of you, your “friends” laugh at your cringy appearance behind closed doors.
Japanese are utterly repulsed by you. Hundreds of years of communication with outside countries have allowed Japanese to sniff out frauds with incredible efficiency. Even Westerners who “pass” look uncanny and unnatural to a Japanese.

Eventually it’ll be too much to bear – you’ll buy a rope, tie a noose, put it around your neck, and plunge into the cold abyss. Your parents will find you, heartbroken but relieved that they no longer have to live with the unbearable shame and disappointment. They’ll bury you with a headstone marked with your western birth name.

Finally got around to checking out "Nimona" on Netflix. I hit diversity fatigue in 15 seconds, strong female character fatigue in 30 seconds, and fag fatigue in 120 seconds.

Dropped.

That is 2 minutes of my life I will never get back.
Noelle Stevenson is a fucking talentless hack, and the book she made that was also adapted to a Netflix movie, is just as bad as every other shit she has written. The industry is full of nepotism that it's depressing

The Scott Pilgrim show had some nice animation and funny moments and was very over the top in a generally good way, but
it also mostly feels like an 'ao3 time travel fix it fic where everyone lives happily ever after' and the end twist was a bit dumb with old scott going full villian. It was nice that it still ended with Scott and Ramona together ig but it feels less earned since this Scott and Ramona went on like 1 date total and had basically 0 other interactions

And also, nice that the exes got some development, but some of the stuff like the roxy fight almost felt steven universe like with them just fighting and screaming for a few minutes and then they cry and apologise and now they're friends again. The fight against old scott also really dragged on imo like chill its not that serious

Micheal Cera actually did a pretty great job with the voice acting

So, I finally tried to watch America: The Motion Picture. Just now? I had better shit to watch back when it was new, like the one CN production from the 2020s that was good but also was a bitch to produce. Wouldn't blame you if you haven't thought about this one in a while unless you are religiously watching Chainsaw Man memes (guess my reasons).
As I wrote already, I tried. I tapped out about the time they try to get Geronimo on board because the roast in the oven was more interesting, meaning I only got about a third of the way through and since I have access to a Netflix account I want to see if there's any reason for me to finish this besides the action.
I got legit Clone High Series 2 vibes but with slightly more accurate character design. For example you got Thomas Edison, but she is a Chinese migrant that dresses the same way Nikola Tesla does in every pop culture representation ever minus the moustache. You got Geronimo that just looks like Bravestarr, and even though this is an anachronistic shitpost of a movie the First Nations still got fucked by someone but not by America because in this movie America has yet to happen. They acknowledge that is weird someone that in real history warred against the United States is going to fight for it but as much as I love Geronimo he still seems like an odd choice. Someone related to War of 1812 or the Battle of Little Bighorn might have been a more sound choice if you wanted ultimate Indigenous foil to the USA. Which reminded me, how does Tecumseh factor in this world? I tapped out after hearing Geronimo call Washington and friends chuds.
Does it get better?

Watched the new Craig Before the Creek movie today, and unsurprisingly it was pretty bland. Most of the jokes weren't funny, and overall it was pretty boring.

I also happened to stumble upon some concept art for some of the characters, and well...

Is it really that important to have a characters pronouns even though they don't do shit in the actual movie...

"I want to make a Pirate but I don't want it to look like a pirate" really encapsulates how modern animators think they are the best thing that ever happened to the medium.

I get making the diabetic kid the medic but he's really named after guy who made insulin?
That's like naming a girl with a unibrow Frida.

And Of course gotta emphasize the preferred pronouns and sexuality of a bunch of 10 year olds playing pirate in a creek. These fucking undesirables wonder why people are leaving this medium in boatloads.

Craig of the creek wishes it was ed edd n eddy but the difference is that show was written by people who understood how to write believable kid characters. With how kids are written these days it makes you wonder if these people ever were kids themselves.
