Western Animation - Discuss American, Canadian, and European cartoons here (or just bitch about wokeshit, I guess)

And Of course gotta emphasize the preferred pronouns and sexuality of a bunch of 10 year olds playing pirate in a creek. These fucking undesirables wonder why people are leaving this medium in boatloads.

Craig of the creek wishes it was ed edd n eddy but the difference is that show was written by people who understood how to write believable kid characters. With how kids are written these days it makes you wonder if these people ever were kids themselves.
The best way for adults to reconnect with what it was like to be a kid is to have kids themselves. once you do, it brings back alot of childhood memories, as well as gives you the outside looking in on the childhood experience.

Sadly, most show runners these days are non reproductive. either full on homo/gender queer, or else spinster box wine bitches with fur babies instead of actual babies.

I think that it is why I like J. G. Quintel so much. Regular Show starts off as a bunch of bums working at a park, to actually improving themselves to not be shitbag 20 year old. His next series is about a 30 year old couple with a kid dealing with life. He seems to make series on where he is at life without a pessimistic slate on the whole experience.

I look forward to his next series being about 40 year old dealing with teenage kids.

It's a shame Close Enough didn't do as well, especially considering that it was delayed for three years due to TBS Animation ended up being a failure. And when it did get picked up and aired on HBO Max, it found its culling until two years later when then-new CEO of WB really killed their animated material.

Close Enough was such a fun show that, although it's literally a matured Regular Show sequel but with more millennial/zoomer material, had every right to be better than most other adult animated shows that aired around that same time (i.e. Hoops, Birdgirl, The Great North, Our Cartoon President, Big Mouth, etc.)

Unfortunately, thanks to getting groomed on tiktok and in fandoms, plenty of kids (especially little girls) identify as he/him gays with making whateve illnesses they have (real or fake) a very major part of their identity. Seems about accurate for a fair amount of the 1st years in my primary school back when i was in the last year.

It was already going down hill, but a bunch of 9 yos being quarantined with nothing but an ipad made things so much worse so quickly

A lot of people compares Craig of the creek with KND, I think that´s blasphemy but anyway....I was seeing a couple of episodes of that thing the other day, season 2 I think, and for me, it was more like "meh, it´s kinda entertaining", but nothing like KND either, IDK, if the horrible reputation of that show it´s an exaggeration, or maybe I miss a lot of shitty, SJW crazy episodes?

I'm gonna be honest, I think Craig might have the slightest edge over KND if only because it doesn't overuse voice actors like Dee Bradley Baker and Tom Kenny for several roles. A lot of episodes of KND are hard to watch for me because of constant shrill screaming, and those two have the worst fucking voices for screaming, especially bad once you recognize them. Not even exclusive to them, Tara Strong and Grey Delisle both have yell heavy roles. The show is also full of gross out gags and really really fucking weird episodes. Like the one where they eat pink eye crust. And the duck one where Tommy's naked for like the entire episode.

I think KND is better for excitable viewers, while Craig is more mellow viewing. All down to preference of course. I still maintain KND has much better and more creative art direction, a really really detailed and fun to engage with world. And the Toilenator. Who could forget the Toilenator?

The show is still crap

For any Total Drama fans here, some amusing drama on Twitter where someone drew art of the newest season's token super effeminate faggot character being shipped with one of the female characters. Even days later they're still super angry about it and it's just so amusing to watch. It's like back in the old days of Tumblr, I swear.

The post that caused the panic in question.

"No, not that kind of slash fiction!"

KND is still a better show. Plus it had GWAR and it made me get into that band. Craig had Deltron 3030 and it ruined my enjoyment for his music

KND has to be the only CN show I can never find a consensus on. Most people I have met liked the art direction but consider the show itself boring, some even considered it boring back when they were children. It's kind of stuck in the middle, is too extra yet it goes bonkers often enough to be routine. That's part of the charm.
But there's this very interesting quirk in that the Latin American dub of this show elevated the material beyond what it accomplished in the anglosphere, there was even a thesis made on how it shaped the way latino zoomers talk. The Latin American dub of KND is so aggressively Mexican that it changed the way dubs are made and forced dubbing studios to resort completely to a neutral accent (something that up until that point only smartasses in Mexico refused to do and now they are being encouraged to do again in anime dubs because of how the Internet has made regional slang more uniform). The Latin American KND dub is like if you took the restraints of 4Kids dubs and applied them to the Ghost Stories dub, it's pure anarchy in a professional enviorment.

I feel like general consensus is that it is mid. It falls into the camp of most 2000s CN programming in that it will never be at the level of late 90s or early 2010s content, but is way better than late 2000s or 2015+ content.

Within its own time period, KND was arguably the 2nd best comedy next to Billy & Mandy. Past them, Foster’s and Lazlo were the only other notable comedies and both are debatable in being worse than KND. Any of the action shows such as Jack, Ben 10 or Titans easily killed the comedies in long-term appeal, and are the exceptions of my most statement above.

Finally got around to watching ruby Gilman. 5/10 average at best the "ugly" animation on the people is definitely there, the movie should have been set entirely underwater cause the designs on the mystical creatures are better. Especially the biolumescence effect.

The story as it was said last summer, is basically little mermaid except what, "if Ariel was the villian." And a clichie twist villain at that. Also the "typical teenager" bullshit was cringe. It's a movie at war with itself about what it wants to be, and yes it does feel like turning red 2.0 with the whole young girl vs her mother plotline.

Tldr: it's like an overcook seafood boil. There's some flavor from the spices but none of that flavor is in the meat.

Side note: I Could have sworn the sea captain was voiced by Tom Kenny digging up his patchy the pirate voice but apparently no it’s not him.

Finished Blue Eye Samurai. It's painful because in broad strokes I like it. I just absolutely detest the wholly unnecessary political subtext. They could have done so much with the "I'm mixed race in a super conservative society".

But they just totally fumble it by making Japan super good, and the westerners literal demons from hell who are ontologically evil. They also fucked up the history to boot, making the big bad fucking IRISH and working for the British. In early 1600s Japan.

If you are going to shit on Colonialism, at fucking least shit on the right colonial empire. The Brits had nothing to do with the Trade in Japan at this time. Ugh its so painful. Especially since the art and story line itself is very good. If they had just cut out all the "Muh Colonialism" and made the big bad an ACTUAL demon from hell and Mizu a half demon (Ala Inuyasha) this would be a great show.

From what I heard it seems like people don't realize that Japan isn't a Ghibli film (excluding Princess Mononoke) and that it was a massive shithole up to very late later in history. It was basically endless clan wars, social hierarchy with no class mobility, nobility that will absolutely fuck you up for a perceived insults and getting fucked over by the weather. Excluding diseases, Europe was (and let's face it, still is) a superior place to live in.

Shigurui in a nutshell. A good watch and a good read. Anime/Manga though
