Covid-Safer Countries/Locations?


I live in an urban area in California, which means that Coviding is hard, but not completely freakish. I know my social world is tiny and I’m one of the last maskers standing, but o can usually spot a handful of other masks. I can get paxlovid and Metformin if I get sick. Outdoor activities and socializing is an option year-round. I’ve been able to get air filters in my kids’ classrooms.

But my kids are trans and our family is Jewish. We had a gun lockdown at our elementary school last week, specifically because it’s a more Jewish neighborhood. There’s a new proposition collecting ballot signatures to take all gender-affirming protections and medical access away from my kids.

I’m saving money in case we need to flee, which depends on the next election and on how California is able to withstand fascism (from within and without.) But covid complicates an already untenable situation. Is there anywhere in the planet that’s safer for my family right now? Anywhere taking precautions where queer people aren’t being specifically targeted and where we could continue to access medical care?

No idea wtf we’d do for income because our jobs are both tied to local industries. But it feels important to know some escape hatch options right now.

The responses are unsurprising, mostly consisting of: move elsewhere in California, move to Asia, move to Canada, and move to Scandinavia.

If I didn't know redditors were an unfortunate blight on our society, I would think this is a troll. But the poster has been posting about covid for years, so it's unlikely.
