Now see, I totally understand where this concept could work, but Lily isn't doing anything with it. This isn't the story of survivors. She clarifies that this story would take place hundreds of years after the collapse of these colonies and nobody has any curiosity or regrets about what happened because they're just accustomed to living this way.

While it seems obvious that there would be a setup for stories about resource gathering she also mentions that the Space Lesbians somehow have regular access to perishable foods pretty much constantly. They have multiple fresh meals every week, regularly restock at settlements, and have a hydroponics bay which provides them with fresh fruits, vegetables, and herbs. The not-incest family, meanwhile, is bouncing around to different settlements and comfortable enough that they spend basically no time at all discussing whether they can afford to adopt a child and keep going on spacefaring adventures.

That's why I'm asking what she's doing with her backstory. I totally get where it could be a good idea, but everything she's actually proposed just get ignored, like she felt an obligation to make some kind of apocalyptic scenario without really understanding why. This is really common in her writing, too; she finds ideas and moments and tropes that she likes in other stories, lifts them with minimal brushing-off, and plunks them in her story, but doesn't actually understand why they work or what purpose they serve. She wants the payoff without bothering with setup-- or making a bunch of setup but not actually leading to a payoff.

If you didn't want people asking questions then don't make a scenario that warrants those questions.

The backstory exists just to snark about how all the people she hates fucked up the world, twice over, and got killed off because they were too weak, stupid and privileged to survive. If this story ever actually gets written, prepare for several scenes of this backstory constantly being brought up to show how backwards humanity used to be, before the majority of life found Tumblr Jesus.

Yeah, now that I think about this even more, this doesn't make sense? If humanity was decimated to this degree then most people would be huddling together to maximize survival. Access to spaceships should be highly limited, and homosexual relationships largely frowned upon because they result in unions that terminate genetic diversity. The lesbians should be fleeing genetic marriages, not star-hopping for shits and giggles.

She would do the same thing with pokemadhouse, when some asked a question that she hadn't considered she'd just shrug and ignore them.

It doesn't make sense to me, why does she always give up as soon as her fans take interest? That's so uncreative, she should be delighted people are asking questions.
When people point out holes or ask for more details about something it means they're engaged right? For whatever reason it frustrates her when people actually engage with her work in a way she doesn't want.

It's why I doubt she's ever been a "ghost writer" professionally. She is meant to moderate wikis, all she wants out of writing is authority. It's so fun watching her throw an impotent fit when she doesn't get it.

I was thinking about this. It doesn't make any sense to me that humanity would have evolve as much to be able to go to space as comfortably as one goes to the market, but we all still rely only on doing the nasty for procreation. If humanity is dying out, wouldn't that be a priority eventually? Space travelling is nailed down, we know how to do that already, why we can't figure how to keep humanity alive?

In most space adventures that question is never brought up at all because humanity is not about to be become an endangered species or it's a larger point about how they do lack the resources for that technology. On the latter stories characters are survivors who struggle to find food or shelter.

In Liliana's story, I just don't see how are they surviving. If they have food, water, a roof, breathable air, have access to a toilet, bed and aren't being enslaved or actively oppressed by anyone, then how is this about survival and not about people just living in space?

You can have a story about people just living in space.

You've probably heard of the term "Stockholm Syndrome" where someone is held captive and grows emotionally attached to their captor. Well it originated from a notorious incident in Stockholm, Sweden where hostages in a bank robbery came to trust their captors more than the police. The reason this happened was because their captors tried to negotiate a peaceful plan to get away without hurting the hostages and the police rejected it, escalating the situation to the point where it could get someone killed. The hostages were deeply critical of how the police handled the situation. A psychiatrist named Nils Bejerat, who had never met with the captives at all, made up "Stockholm Syndrome" on the spot to deflect blame away from the police. It couldn't have been that had legitimate criticisms of the police, they were just brainwashed with simp disease. I bring this up because codependency has the same source. It originated in the 1930's to describe the actions of women with alcoholic husbands. You know the 30's, right? Where women couldn't actually divorce their abusive husbands and had no financial independence of their own? What came to be called "codependency" was actually the survival strategies of women in abusive situations with an addict they were literally trapped with.

I have personal experience with this. It's formed the backbone of my entire life, which is why I don't find the so-called "black comedy" of this game all that funny because I've had to live through it. If anything this game only emphasises the poor way the general public understands mental health and twists it for their own entertainment. I have seen so many people repeat the myth that abuse victims become abusers themselves, which doesn't happen anything close to as often as people claim it does and is actually a long and difficult recovery process. But that's complicated and requires actually listening to abuse victims who didn't become timid people pleasers, and nobody ever does that."

That said it's a fascinating perspective on the actual situation in Stockholm. Imagine hating cops so much that you think the armed criminals who took the hostages in the first place were just trying to find a peaceful resolution to their own hostage-taking and the cops were in the wrong for not just giving them whatever they asked for.

Kind of projecting, I think. Lily's insinuated that her own behavioral issues would have been resolved if her parents just gave her what she wanted, if they just didn't make her do homework, so of course she assumes that the criminals would just move on with their ill-gotten gains if only MY DAD the authorities just stopped being abusive. Because that kind of thing definitely doesn't embolden criminals and communicate that if they take hostages they get whatever they want.

A lot of sci-fi stories that touch upon this aspect present it for the ethical questions it raises. Cloning in particular is a pretty knotty subject and raises a lot of uncomfortable questions-- I think the most prevalent in this hypothetical is 'who gets to decide who gets cloned and why', which leads to an obvious issue of eugenics. Using cloning exclusively to propocase the species also grossly limits genetic diversity, unless you're going Brave New World and making test-tube babies by mixing different genomes (which still goes right back to eugenics on an even more precise level). There's a reason Brave New World, seminal dystopian fiction as it is, opens with the baby-making factory.

Also I hear rumors that people like to bang, and sometimes get excited when that banging results in shared offspring. Sounds wild but I guess it's possible.

(There's actually a lot of really horrifying stuff to think about when you start digging into the ramifications of these kinds of systems. It would be a fascinating and frightening book, but if you're just trying set up space adventures, probably a lot of ethical and moral dilemmas you want to avoid.)

Even discounting the ethical issues, though, Lily did establish the societal collapse and how spread thin the remaining population is. If you wanted to repopulate at scale you'd need large-scale facilities and the resources to not only manage them but then properly raise the resultant children. Maybe there are small-scale cloning methods or genetic mixers, but they'd probably be about as effective as more traditional means of reproduction, at least for purposes of mass population recovery.

I think I said this before but it would make more sense for people to regroup and try and reform some semblance of society around whatever resources are available, clustering the population. Tribalism doesn't really work on a galactic scale, when you're absolutely reliant on other settlements to be able to get all the resources you need. It's not like you're going to land on an uninhabitable planet and be able to establish self-sufficiency-- you need to work with other settlements. Even warring for resources doesn't really work because we're dealing with such massive distances between settlements. She ALSO says that people have lost the knowledge of how their technology originally worked -- they can do basic repairs but they can't reconstruct FTL drives or build spaceships from the ground up, if they even have the resources -- so it's not really possible to establish new self-sustaining space stations, either.

Farbeit for me to make the suggestion, but I don't think Lily thought this through.

She is as sweet as can be. Always saying the sweetest things to me and catches me whenever I self deprecate and calls me on it.

She is the best snuggler and I fall asleep feeling loved and refreshed and I've never had a single nightmare when she's sleeping beside me.

She is absolutely adorable when she talks about something she's passionate about. Be that game design, tinkering with computers, and her favorite cursed shit to share with me.

The best date night we ever had was when we went to see Rise of Skywalker together. We disliked it so much she spent the entire walk home trying to think of a better story and that's how we got TSR.

I love her hair and I love to bury my fingers in it.

She's a fantastic cook. She's never made a meal that I didn't like. My favorite is the meal she made when I first visited her.

I love her laugh and I love making her laugh. If I do something that gets her to laugh, that is always the height of my day.

And she's always open to experiencing my favorite things. Like when we watched Digimon together or when we played portal. I was happy to see her having a good time. Even as we were cracking jokes about it.

She's calm and collected under pressure. Like when we were stuck in time square during a blackout. My ass was frozen not sure what to do, but she was on point getting done what needed to get done to ensure we were safe.

When we went to the cloisters together there was this little patch of forest between the museum and the rest of town and she was utterly adorable climbing through it. Going through the woods is so much fun with her.

Speaking as one of those autists, there's a lot of bitterness there that some people have never bothered to work through. It just comes with the territory when you have a show that's so divisive and people lump you in with the real bad apples of the community.

She actually mentions a couple of anecdotes -- walking home from The Rise of Skywalker, walking through a forest -- which actually communicates memories and moments shared, and that's nice, but everything else is the most broad, generic, impersonal nothing. This isn't how you talk about somebody you love. It's how you talk about a work acquiantance. "Oh, yeah, Tim from accounting. He's really sweet." Like she's really have trouble answering this question adequately.

This one is Lily, Xain, Sketchy, Mikay, and Ginger, they talk like it’s a sleepover.

They repeatedly tell Sketchy he’s cute and lovely with very little reaction. Honestly I like Sketchy he’s very laid back, he’ll just talk and won’t cower in silence if Lily isn’t speaking to him, same with Xain. Lily also never snaps at either of them. Streams with Sketchy are usually good because he’s more interesting then the rest of the peanut gallery and can hold a conversation. Also he likes Jet Set Radio.

When I started partway through the stream, Ginger was on a crusade of her own against one of the gossip blogs that hates her, asunnycoffee. Sunny is a sperg, Ginger is an asshole, not really concerned with the outcome.

Lily is worried because logitech is discontinuing her preferred mouse and she's almost worn out her current one from pressing it so hard. According to Lily she apparently has very numb fingers so she smashes her keyboard and mouse buttons frequently. Dramatization:

Lily frequently corrects Mikay when she makes jokes, and doesn’t seem to do it to anyone else.

Mikay admits to listening to Lily’s pokemon video when she goes to bed. I don’t blame her, it puts people to sleep.
